Llamas and chickens and ducks, oh my!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

We got two new llamas on the weekend! Yay! We are welcoming to Whispering Acres:

Moving along to ducks....here they are....all grown up and looking lovely!

See the gorgeous blue highlight on the mallard feather? She is HUGE for a mallard - I think she might be a cross or something.

I think this "Blue Swedish" duck is actually a mix of mallard and Swedish.

Here is the other blue Swedish, who I think is more pure....I think....

Now, would somebody PLEASE tell me, what kind of chickens are these that I hatched?

Thumbnail by DrDoolotz
Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Yeah, these are the RIR, right?

So.....what are these?

Speckled Sussex. At least that is what my Speckled Sussex look like.

Oh my, I love that nubian in your xxx rated photo.. lol, what a pretty coat she has.

And the other animals are pretty too.

I might have to be put on you list of lama baby someday. Of course I will have to fill out the appropriate paperwork to qualify. But I do have refrences,, hehe

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

That Nubian is Zak, our wether, but yes, he has a very pretty coat. :-)

Did I get sussex eggs...?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Our 3 baby Muscovy ducks! Just hatched this past week.

Looks like 2 brown/white mix and a white, but the white appears to have dark tail feathers.

Well definately not any Rhode Island Reds in there. I don't know what you have but my Rhode islands have absolutely no white on them. 99% red with a few black tips on their tails.

Sheila

P.S. They are beautiful though!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I just love the feet!

Cute ducks! I love ducks but they are so messy for our operation. Love to look at your though!

Shoot, I wish I had marked them! I thought the reddish ones were the RIR, but maybe not. I had bought some red sex link eggs, but I don't think it's those because they are all red, which would not be the case if they were sex linked.

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Darn it!!! Now I am going to bed to sulk!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

They are at that teen stage.. LOL They will do nothing but look better from here on out..
Congrats on the big stud and black eyed pea.. such a cute name!

Ferndale, WA

Hey Mox that first pic of Mr Studley. With a coat like that I was looking for a buffalo head on that beast. LOL. Now what I really don't is him Running around with the adorable BLACK-EYED-PEA, and the next pic's X-rated with him and some flozzy, If he can't be loyal to Pea!!! Well I just don't know. And I gotta tell ya girl With my deepest regards to Catscan, that just ain't no speckled Sussex. I think someone just spilled the paint can on some of those eggs.LOL Love the pic's but i must admit I don't know how you keep up.

Is that your D H with the Llamas? They look very friendly, Black eyed pea!! What a cute name. Lilly needs to get a life of her own>LOL Haystack

Well I do get my Mahogany Faverolles mixed up with my Speckled Sussex--until I look at their feet and cheeks--but my Speckled Sussex really do look like that right now. The are only about 3 months old and are just losing their whitish undercoats and darkening up. If I ever get it together, I will try to take pictures.

Ferndale, WA

OK Catscan!!! I stand corrected, and certainly not the first time.LOL My mistake was comparing mature birds with young pullets. That again is what I enjoy about the forum. Friends can correct us when needed and no offense taken. Your a peach and I'll try to remember not to compare adults with young-uns. Haystack

Ferndale, WA

Hey Mox!! I think you just hit the jackpot, I was going to tell you they look like red sexlink. and they are not all red, many of them have a lot of white in them. Hay

Lodi, United States

Absolutely no offense...I am too generally ignorant to be offended by much of anything. I just know about Speckled Sussex, because I have been thinking mine looked odd--but they are starting to look more like they should as their adult feathers come in. Claire's may not be Speckled Sussex--but they do look like mine right now.

Lodi, United States

Don"t they advertise some sex-link pullets as having "white petticoats"?

Ferndale, WA

Trust me my dear!!! There is nothing ignorant about you, You just showed some reall class. I feel privledge to have people like you to discuss topics with. Have a greag evening. Haystack

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Oh how beautiful are those llamas? The stud is huge. And Black eyed peas (LUV the name) is just gorgeous!! Claire, you have all the fun. I am moving to a house near you just so I can pet all those new animals as you get them. Did you hatch your own ducks? If yes, were their egg shells as waxy as your gooses eggs? How cute are they. Is your weather warmed up enough for them to go out? or will there be tubby video? hehehe I sure did love the tub videos! How did you find time to learn to crochet??? Do you sleep? LOL They are wonderful new additions. Have a wonderful day! Jeanmarie

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

We have Gold Star pullets, which are a sex link. They are basically Red, but have lots of white tipped feathers. Some have more white than others.
Boy, I don't know about this xxx rated stuff here on DG. LOL!

Have a Great Day!

Hay & Catscan - turns out I DID buy speckled sussex eggs! I got them on Backyardchickens.com, not from eggbid, so I was all confused because I hadn't looked on BYC to check my old messages.

JeanMarie - yes, I did hatch those ducks in my incubator. The eggs were very waxy, which was so interesting to me because I am not used to that! The weather is warmer but I will be keeping those little duckies indoors for a while because they haven't got a mama duck to show them what to do. Bathtub pics and/or videos WILL be forthcoming, but not for a while yet because they need oil in their feathers before they can go swimmy swimmy.

I taught myself to crochet from a book (Teach Yourself Visually: Crochet) over the Christmas holiday, and then I only had time to make the basket because we had to drive nearly 3 hours to get the llamas, and Kelly was driving, so I crochet while he drives. On the way back, I made a little brown bird-nest type of thing and I am going to make some felted eggs to put in it and see if I can sell it!

Edited to remove all references to revelry.

Claire,
Love all the pictures, and was looking out where you live... I would like to see some pictures when the trees are in bloom....

Aw heck, I think a road trip before Billy starts school is in order...

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Thanks MissJestr! Not a lot of the trees are bloomers - many are just leafers! But some do bloom and I'll be sure to post some spring pics when they start. We have flowering crabapples, plus some native viburnums and other woody species in the edge of the forest that flower.

Road trip anytime!

Gentle reminder from your friendly admins: let's not post "xxx" rated photos here. Yes, it's what happens in a farmyard, but that doesn't mean it's all suitable for a general audience ;o)

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Yikes, after several years here with no problems, seems like suddenly somebody's got a target on my head.
