Ginger plants from grocery store?????????

How do I get the root or rizhome started, I tried one last year and nothing happened. What do I do???????

I have just put them in a pot and kept them moist, not wet in bright light. Then wait. Sometimes you just get duds!

If you wait till the ginger starts to sprout eyes (buds) before you plant it, it will have a better chance of growing.
Gingers like a somewhat acidic soil.
