NEED PIC OF VEGGIES AND FLOWERS GROWING TOGETHER

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Hi All!
Awhile back there was a discussion of planting vegetables and flowers together, and someone posted a beautiful picture of her garden with cabbages and other veggies growing alongside marigolds and other plants. Please post that pic again if you know of it / have it. I've searched and can't find it.

Thanks!

As long as the marigolds don't attract spider mites to your garden. Spider mites do a number on tomatoes.

Linda, I hope the person whose photo you are looking for sees your request and reposts it, but also, I just googled edible landscaping, selected images, and there are a ton of fabulous photos of such examples.

Here is one lovely one:

Very cool Kyla. You could also try the term pottager in google. Flowers and veggies are an old idea but darn they're pretty

Yeah, some of those photos had me droooooling a bit, lol!

Put in "potager" if you're going to Google it. Yup, it's a typical French style of gardening. We grow marigolds, Victoria Blue salvia, and basil in among our tomatoes, peppers and eggplants, and nasturtiums with the squash, but I'd like to do more mixing this year. Those links are very inspirational!

Seems a bit like being in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, doesn't it? Everywhere you go, there's something edible...

I think my granddaughter sees my garden in that light! She's always going in there to graze. Strawberries, peas, tomatoes, grapes, arugula, snap beans, raspberries and blackberries - it's so much fun to see her snacking there!

I am curious to see how those Brussels Sprouts do in that vertical container, since they grow really tall and wide. It doesn't seem possible that they would have enough room- Also, they are an upright stalk with lots of sprouts spiraling up the stalk. Please post photos-

just reading along ,now iam full of new ideas, and its cold,ok ill just keep planting in my mind, but iam going to plant more flowers in my veg. garden this yr

JoParrott.........Yeah, Im overdoing it on that pole ain't I. I think I will spread those four pots out to some other poles. I found out last year from growing tomato's on a pole that roots will grow from one pot down through the drainage holes into the pot below it. That effectively doubles the amount of grow mix for the roots to about 4 gallons. These EZgro pots hold a little over two gallons each. I think I need to put a brussels sprouts pot above another pot planted with shallow rooted stuff like the Alyssums. This should do the trick.

Gymgirl.......I didn't mean to hi jack your potager question but Im just sitting here giggling to myself........we may have a new deal going here......a POLE POTAGER!! Once you get that new grow pole invention of yours patented and in production we can become famous as the Pole Potagers of Texas. We can team up and write a best selling book, "How to potage on a pole." Yahoooo........we gonna be rich!! :-)

I grew dahlias in front of tomatoes last summer. Got a little out of hand. Going to plant something smaller there this year.

Jay, you are sick!^_^

Nope, just hyperventilating a lot thinking about all that money we are gonna make from that book about "how to potage on a pole."

Edited this post to add: I unpotaged that pole pictured in a post above today by ripping out nine Brussels sprouts and throwing them in the compost pile. Talk about a comedy of errors. At Walmart, I thought I was buying a 6 pack of bok choi. A lady in short shorts walked by and disrupted my thinking and I grabbed brussels sprouts by misstake. When I got home, I discovered that I not only had the wrong plant but they were in a 9 pack. I stuck all nine of them on one pole......another misstake. Three squadrons of harlequin bugs came swarming in and made three point lalndings on the brussels sprouts. They literally swarmed the brussel sprouts and one sunflower......nothing else. Today I got to thinking.........77 years of hard living and I have never walked into a grocery store and bought brussel sprouts. Or ordered them at a restaurant. Decision made, they are gone. I will plant some kind of flowers in their place. I like looking at pretty flowers. I like looking at women in short shorts too......but danged if that hasn't caused me a lot of trouble.

Hilarious!

When I was sixteen with a bullet, I went outside to wash my car in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt (they weren't all that short, either -- I just had a sixteen-year-old body in 'em). Well, my neighbor across the street was puttering under his car. Fast forward several years, and we're out having a drink. I think I had turned 21 or so, and this was a little celebration. He asked me if I remembered that day I was out washing my car in those shorts. I said, yes, I remembered. I had waived politely at him and said "hey'. He told me he was changing the oil in his car. And when I came outside in those shorts he got so distracted he forgot to put the drain plug in before he poured 5 quarts of brand new oil straight through to the ground!

Jay, I know about distractions.^_^
