I planted a Meyer's Lemon Tree last year in September. It was healthy when I planted it, but today it is pitiful. It is in full sun. Many of the leaves dropped off and are not that pretty glossy green. It has not grown an inch. Any suggestions?
My son planted one before me and his is beautiful and has put on lemons twice. He has even had to trim his back. Should I just start over with a new plant?
Meyer's Lemon Tree?
I planted two of them last year - one in July and one in November. The one from July currently has blooms and lemons on it for the second time. It didn't grow much for 4 months even though it had lemons, then it suddenly shot up 10-12". The one from November is absolutely loaded with good smelling blooms right now, but hasn't grown much yet. Neither one lost any leaves over the winter and I'm normally about 5 degrees colder here than in Houston. They both are in full sun, so that shouldn't be your problem. Try putting a tsp. of Osmocote on it & if it doesn't improve I would just start over, because a Meyer Lemon tree shouldn't be hard to grow. I got my first one for the fragrant blooms and really didn't expect it to grow any fruit, so I was pleasantly surprised when a 14" plant produced a very large lemon. Good luck and have fun with it. Plants are like people - they should bring joy and happiness without a whole of effort, if they cause problems for you and are too much work to get along with, get rid of them. LOL
Thanks Aswan01, I'll take your advice. I'm new on this board and very pleased to have already received a response. I'm looking forward to learning a lot.
Welcome to DG Morble! We hope to see you around the forums. Does your son fertilize his tree or give it any different care?
I don't have a Meyer lemon but I have Meiwa Satsuma that has a ton of buds on it and am glad to know this is the right time of year for citrus blooms. I was looking at the Meyer lemon but was afraid it wouldn't overwinter in my area.
Hi Morble!
You might want to post over here:

more specialized growers and I know there's a thread about that same problem on cara cara orange--there's also a meyer lemon thread.
