blkraven2, I guess my eyes were not deceiving me because the hummingbirds haave arrived there too. I was a bit stunned to see hummingbirds here in San Antonio already with the cold weather and the rain. After seeing them, I was so happy that I had blooms on which they could feast. I have not hung any feeders yet. I guess I had better put them up. :o)

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

Im in Cherokee Country, north of lufkin and south of palestine, in Zone 8a I was suprised as can be to see him.. I was really glad after all the rain and cold that they were up! I would put my feeders up april 1st when I lived in MI and just figured now would be about the right time for here.. He was a ruby throated.. I ve not seen anyother kind here yet. Last summer they loved my morning glories

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

blkraven2, I thought it was early for the hummers to be here. It is really early for them to be in your area. I had been thinking that perhaps some did not migrate this year; however, I would have been seeing them sooner.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

This was probably the Lone Ranger.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Hi all. Popping in to ask if anyone is reporting their sitings? I avidly follow the migration as they are spring and fall visitors to my garden. Here is the site that I use. http://hummingbirds.net/map.html

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

Looks like someone saw them in Lamar County, I'd better get my feeders up.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I use the same map Dahlia. I noticed they were north of me last week, so I put up two feeders. No takers yet. I'm in the county next to blkraven so I have hope that I'll have some soon.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

I saw my first one while in San Antonio yesterday. DH had already seen one at our place.

Woodville, TX

Thanks for the "heads-up" on the hummers. I need to clean up my feeder and get it hung on the porch. It is starting to warm up here in Tyler County.

Since that map was supposed to be for only one species, I always wondered how many reports sent in were actually for other species...

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

since posting sat I have seen hummers almost every day...

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Yesterday at 4:13 pm, CDT, I spotted my first male Ruby Thoated Hummer at the feeder. And he came back later several times.
About 8:30 or so he was still at the feeder way after all the other birds had gone to bed. I also spotted the Blue Jays back from wherever it is they go for the winter. We have an aviary it would appear of House Finches and they and the House Sparrows do NOT get along and will fight at the feeder. I feel like spring has really arrived. Time to put away some of the grain feeders and get out the other 2 Hummer feeders.

I lived in Mi for a long time and always put my feeders up april first.. Have heart! they will be there soon!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks blkraven2. The rubythroated usually pass through Mother's Day to Father's Day here and the rufus? The rufus aren't known to frequent urban gardens but I'm hoping. Since I started putting in hummer-friendly plants I've been getting alot more juveniles in the fall that I can't identify as which of the two. (Hopefully they will remember my garden so I will get more adults). My theory: 'Hang the feeders. Plant the flowers they luv. They will come". ^_^

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

from what I have read they do come back to the same general area. Males first to establish their territories then the females. When I lived in AZ I had all kinds except fopr the rubby throated.. I had one(never could figure out what kind) who every morning sat the top of the tallest tree on the block and then surveried his "domain" Woe any other male who invaded his kingdomn...lol.. the arial antics were unbelievable and entertaining (at least to me they were..lol.)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

The guys from the Bird Sanctuary here tell me that if the hummers find a good source of food in your garden they remember and will return on their migration. I hope this is true. I have been getting alot of juveniles so I hope that is a good sign. Also since I'm close to the last 'rest' stop before their breeding grounds they surely need to pump up LOL.
