Mail Still Moving!
Nation's postal employees are delivering

WASHINGTON D.C. - Postal employees across the country are continuing to maintain normal collection, processing and delivery operations following yesterday's tragic events in New York City and Washington, D.C.

"The best thing we can do for America right now is to keep the mail moving," said Pos tmaster General John E. Potter.

Mail continues to flow to its destinations and POST OFFICES throughout the country ARE OPEN to serve customers. The only exceptions are the portions of New York City most severely impacted by yesterday's events.

Since nat ionwide air transportation was suspended by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), an expanded ground transportation network is moving mail. Once the FAA allows commercial flights to resume and carry mail, the Postal Service will use all existing mean s to keep the mail moving to the American people and businesses.

How to help prevent postage rates from going u p:
US Zip Code Look-Up
Check Here: http://www.usps.gov/ncsc/lookups/lookup_zip+4.html

"Why are ZIP+4 codes used?

"In 1983, the Postal Service began using an expanded ZIP Code called "ZIP+4." A ZIP+4 code consists of the original 5-digit ZIP Code plus a 4-digit add-on code. The 4-digit add-on number identifies a geographic segment within the 5-digit delivery area, such as a city block, office building, individual high-volume receiver of mail, or any other unit that would aid efficient mail s orting and delivery.

Use of the 4-digit add-on is not mandatory, but it helps the Postal Service direct mail more efficiently and accurately because it reduces handling and significantly decreases the potential for human error and possibility of misdeli very. It also will lead to better control over USPS costs and, in turn, postage rate stability."

You might not have one if you're in a rural/less populated area.

Yep, my mail was picked up and delivered today.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Hat in hand, here. As much as I have grumbled about the postal service from time to time, I for one am very grateful to them for taking measures to keep one aspect of our lives running as smoothly as possible.

I can't imagine what may happen when we really start to feel the effects of what happened to our air traffic and financial markets yesterday.

A big thanks to the U.S. Postal employees!

Dover, DE(Zone 7a)

Does anything stop the post office? Rain, snow, sun sleet, hail and more......... Love them, except when they bring the bills! Even had my postman give me my neighbors phone bill! I took it over to her and asked her if she wanted mine too!

Springfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Our local news reported that normal mail going half way across the country will only be delayed by one day. What they can not guarantee is priority mail until 24 hours after all aircraft have been cleared.
