Too much water for potatoes?

Argyle, TX(Zone 7b)

In 2007, we had 8.5" of rain in one day. I lost almost everything that I had planted. My garden area, that had done fine in the past, became clear to me was in a low spot. I planted potatoes a couple of weeks ago in another spot that is higher. It has rained the lst four days, about 4" I believe. Will they survive?

Dig a hole where you planted the potatoes. See if it fills up with water. If not, you should be OK.

Even if so, they might be OK. Potatoes like water, they just don't like to sit in it.

Thanks LTilton. Long time no see, or talk rather. lol They survived. Am I suppossed to wait until they start making seeds to add dirt/leaves/straw or should I go by height? Thanks

Hill them up as they grow.
