WOW! Ok, I'm sold. I need to try some vertical gardening. I'm especially intrigued by the bean and strawberry towers. I'm set on most everything else but I would love to get a larger harvest of the two. This might be right up my alley....space saving and easy to maintain.

Yum yum. I'm figuring it's about time to start my tomatoes and melons inside that I want to plant outside.

Papa: I want one of those, I only got two grandbabies and they are 10 and 11 and I'm told that's all I'm ever gonna get (sniffles). The reason I kidnap my sisters all the time. LOL

I have three daughters..21-27.
Im afraid Im just the opposite. I say, dont do it...they grow into teenagers and they have friends and those friends have wacky parents and then all of the sudden you find yourslef broke.
O mercy. JK really, altho I would like to keep them 6 and under.

That is one cute little future gardener.

Hey Bob!
When did you plant your Granex? I thought they only grew in the Fall/Winter. I'm just now starting to harvest what I planted in November (Thanksgiving). Pulled a handful of Nantes Half carrots yesterday evening, and will pull some turnips and beets tomorrow. I need to make way for my okra and green beans.

The mustards have bolted (finally, after almost 4 cuttings!), but the collards look like they're still not playing out, yet. I have creeping onions in a 24 planter that continue to creep, and one more head of cabbage that's still content to be growing. Maybe tomorrow or next weekend I'll pull it, too.

Did you start everything from seeds or did you just get seedlings? LMK Thanks!

She looks like she's "ready to pick" Bob. I am following the bean pole with admiration.

Devota: I think she is hanging around for the biggest strawberry that papa always makes sure she gets. LOL

Linda: I was thinking about starting my okra seeds in the seed starting kit, how long does it take for them to pop up? Can I? Can I?

About 1 week did it for me. In fact, I started waaaaaaaaaaaaay too soon, and ended up destroying that whole tray of seedlings. They'd gotten about 5" tall. I'm gonna direct sow them when the weather warms up here. Not gonna fool around with the seedlings.
I learned last season that if I can direct sow it, "sow" be it!

Gainesville, FL(Zone 9a)

Joy, its WAY to soon to start okra. Altho, it will be pretty in the garden, it wont start making pods till it gets unbearable outside.

I'm gonna mix some veggie plants in with my patio plants And I'm considering sowing some purple okra seeds in a 24" planter after the last frost date in zone 9a. I'll let it grow up amongst some pink geraniums and when it gets hot enough it'll start cranking out some pods. I'm trying 2 get the most outta the space I have available.

Gainesville, FL(Zone 9a)

One thing is for sure, they are cool looking plants. I think they look great in the landscape. And those flowers!!!!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I would love to try bush beans in the vertical planters next year. They're a bit pricey for me, so I've got to save up for them! Yours are coming along great!

Finally, got my red cabbage and green cabbage planted and my leaf lettuce, the leaf lettuce went into Bob's grow flat bags, 4 of them, 10 plants each, tomorrow, I transfer tomatoes to the grow flat bags and plant my carrot seed into the EB. Then I start my okra seeds and hopefully I will have my Parks pepper seeds to plant?

I grew a bunch of okra last year, it was my most successful crop besides eggplant (because it is sooo hot here in the summer). I soaked my seeds in water overnight and direct seeded into the ground. It has to be really hot for the okra to grow, it doesn't like cool temperatures AT ALL. It grows really fast once it sprouts, Joy. And it starts producing well before the plants get to their maxiumum height. We got tired of eating okra last year. I got some burgandy okra for this year. I don't recommend transplanting okra, it's a tough plant in ground but it doesn't like being fooled with otherwise, though I am sure people have done it and got okra from it. If you do not soak the seeds it can take up to 2 weeks for it to germinate in the ground. I think I had okra popping up after about 5 days after soaking them.

Bob, as always you have a gorgeous bunch of veggies there. That onion is as big as your grandbaby! :)

I'm going to plant in my 24 inchers tomorrow if I can decide what to put in them.
