My nephew's preschool has been given an incubator w/ 24 eggs by a local farm. The teacher has asked me to help candle the eggs tomorrow morning and I've never done it! I've been trying to find the great pics the DGers have posted of candled eggs but haven't been successful. The eggs will be 8 or 9 days old, can anyone give me a hand with this? Any help will be appreciated!! I feel like the whole class will be looking at me; I don't want to disappointed a roomful of 4 and 5 year olds! Eeeekkkk!
Thanks in advance,
Sue :-)

Here are a few web sites I used. What do you have to candle with? I made one once with a coned piece of black construction paper. It was so easy a kid could do it. I did this with summer camp kids last year. What a treat!!! Have fun.
I just use a mag light.. Dark room, shine the flashlight from the top. You should see a gathering of veins that look like a spiderweb.

The women I ordered my showgirls from sent me a free egg candling pen. She was so nice.
Thanks everyone! It's much appreciated. :-) I tried to load the "my homemade bator" sticky but having dial-up it's too large to load.
The farm provided a candler which I haven't seen yet. Well, I'll let y'all know how I made out!
Thanks again,
Sue :-)
That was awesome! The eggs were older than I thought-11 days old. 32 good eggs and 5 bad-3 were clear and 2 had blood rings.
It was soooo cool seeing the chickens move in the eggs! They had me in a closet candling the eggs and parents kept popping in to see them moving in the eggs! I think we may have some more chicken heads in my area after this. :-)
They have RIR, Dominques and one other one that the teacher couldn't remember the name of. It's probably a good thing that the farm takes the chicks back a week after hatching because I'd be giving my DH a stroke by bringing more home! lol!
LOL!! I loved candling as well. My kids and I candled and one named hers swimmy because it looks like it swims in the eggs. She did not care that once it was hatched it would not like water at all. hehehe I love Dominique chickens!! My daughters name is Dominique. LOL Congrats on a successful preschool adventure! The whole town will have chickens now!! ;)
