Hello,
I am looking for various bearded irises. I am just starting on this site so my trade list is small, but I am willing to pay for shipping. If anyone is interested please D-mail me. I have a huge area to plant them. I love all colors and would like to get some reblooming types. Thank you for your help and time!
Thanks,
Dana
Wanted: Bearded Iris
Get hold of me about mid April and I will see what I can do. BEV
will iris do well in TX?
I thought they needed an extended winter to bloom again the next year.
Sorry, showing my ignorance here!
I guess it would depend on what area of TX too?
Well I just hate for her to plant a bunch of stuff and then have it not do well is all...
Never thought of that Frilly. BEV
Dana, They will be ok as far as zone 8b so what zone are you? BEV
Texas only has about 10 zones
I looked at the zone map and think they would do fine. What do you think Frilly? BEV
Iris do grow well around here. They grow all the way to San Antonio which is 72 miles south of us. The only thing I was told to watch for was to be sure the soil they are in can drain so the do not rot. We are in the hill country and we do get cold - at least 500 hrs below 40 degrees. (We have peach orchards) We have great black dirt - very little clay were I plan to plant them. I am in zone 8 but how do you tell if you are in A or B? I will get back with you dragonfly62
With whatever you can spare. I thank you all for your time!!!
Dana
OK Dana. BEV
You could call some of your local nurseries or ask some of your local gardening neighbors, maybe they can advise you.
I know some Iris are re-bloomers, I guess they would not need a cold period? Maybe those kind would do well for sure. I just do not know. sorry I am not any help!
AIS convention last year was south of her in Austin, ^_^
but I've heard that only the Texas irises and a few CA irises did well. the NorthWest irises all croaked.
Oh, I would love the Peacock's eye iris! It will go great with the 6 I am getting from my husband's grandmother's garden. They have been in the family for decades. I am unsure of their names, but I plan to research them when I get them and post them. I do plan to share the irises as they multiply. I want to thank all of you for your help and time. I have a huge area of our ranch that will be dedicated to irises. If any one else has some to spare, I will gladly take them. If I have anything you would like to trade for or I will pay for shipping! Thank you again!!!
I may have some tall bearded available. I will hae to wait and see how many made it throught the winter OK. I'll let you know.
Susan
Thank you lincolnitess, I still have plenty of room and even if I run out - I will just have to make another bed!! ; ) I will D-mail you and thank you so much for the offer!!
Dana
Susan you might have to wait and see how many of them make it through spring, the way the weather is here today :(
It is supposed to be only 18 F tonight.
I suppose all of mine will freeze off. I covered a few, but the wind blows them off, and well at 18 I dont even think covering them will do any good.
they didn't bloom well last year because of all the cool temps and rain we had, year before they froze off.
so now I am holding out hope for year 4
boo hoo...
