More buds

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I just came in from my epi house and I have 2 buds on Neon Smile. This is a cutting I get last summer and it has not put on any new growth but it now clearly has 2 buds. I hope they stick but will not hold my breath. http://www.gotepis.com/cart/cuttings/all/neon-smile/prod_693.html

I also now have 5 buds on my easter cactus. And the seed pots on the CC are developing.

Edit to add look down to my post of the picture.

Neon Smile is pretty.

Does anyone know if 'Got Epies' take paypal? I couldn't find anything about payment method on thier site.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes he do. That is how I pay him. Just a reminder he usually has a large sale around Mother's day. Right now he is pretty much sold out.

Thanks. I was needing some more dragon fruit varieties. He has some good ones for a decent price :)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

He does have nice cuttings.

I JUST FOUND ANOTHER BUD ON A CUTTING. Now why do not the larger plants get off their duffs and but out buds???? This is one of the cuttings that lost its label and as the name was not written on it I do not know what it is. LOL

Just finished my third bench and moved some of the basket types onto it.

Sandy the epi nut.

Sandy, did you hand pollinate your christmas cactus? Mine never gets buds, do they have to be hand pollinated?
Thanks, Linda

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes I hand pollinated. I was told that it takes a long time for them to ripen.

I will try to take a picture of one of the fruits tomorrow and get a better picture of my flower buds.

On the CC buds did you but your plants where they had a shorter period of light. I have one of mine that has more flower buds on it. I will take pictures of it also tomorrow that is if the sun comes out. LOL

Congrats on your buds! No fair none of mine have buds yet lol. They must all like thier new greenhouse :)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I think they do. I have a lot of growth. But the funny thing is that the two that have buds have no new growth on them. I did let them get very cool. Of course it is hard to keep them warm when you have not get the green house/shade house done all the way.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Make that 3 epis with buds. I will put pictures on later. I am trying to back up this thing and it is taking forever!!!!!

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

I just went out and inspected them all carefully -no buds waaaahhh! Some are making a lot of new branches though so I shouldn't complain :)
I need to get them all in baskets or hang them up soon I really need the space on my shelves now lol.

I got 3 new dragonfruits. Now I have 8 diff ones total (2 noids and 6 named).
So I guess I better start on some new trellises for them. Now its back to the Home Depot again lol !

Me to I need to get some more shelving. I have 3 dragon fruit. Three benches down and 3 to go. LOL

Wren what kind of fertilizer do you use on your epies and how often?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Well the last three months I did not feed them at all and only watered lightly. March through Oct I will feed them 10-10-10 see picture below. I found this at HD

Thanks for the photo wren.

We got the dragonfruit cuttings we ordered in the mail last week and they look perfect. He even threw in a free one of a variety I didn't have yet~ Pretty Cool ! I've been letting them heal up and will prob plant next week. Boy if all these make fruit I am gonna been having lots of dragonfruit-Tini's and dragonfruit-Ritas LOL!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

that's great. Just make a note that some must be hand pollinated. I think I remember that he had the ones that where self pollinated listed.

What could be better than dragonfruit rita's. LOl They sound wonderful. I need to get outside and see which varieties are taking off and which are slow movers.

I gave mine the beer fertilizer on the first day of spring. I think i will alternate it with a regular fertilizer and see if they green up a little.

I think I have 4 that need to be pollinated and 3 that don't and a few I'm not sure of because they are noids lol. I'm gonna try the beer and fertilizer alternated with reg. fert too this year. It gives me a good excuse to get beer anyways lol.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I am trying the beer fert. too but I do not drink beer. LOL

Pawleys Island, SC

We don't drink it either Sandy, LOL DH decided one day that he wasn't going to drink it any more and I still had some left in the fridge so I started using them to make the beer fert. I used the last one I had on the 1st day of spring so now I guess I will have to buy beer just to make plant food. LOL Yea, imagine telling that to someone without this plant obsession.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I agree. Very glad that you DH swore of beer. My DD was a very heavy drinker.

Well I have some sad news, the bud fell off. I am not sad because the cutting was really too young to carry the flower. i have a lot of new growth on every thing. Will have more room for them as soon as I move the CC's out for the summer. Plan on having a second shade house just for them and the Easter cactus before winter.
