Hi All;
I went to the chicago garden show yesterday & had such a wonderful time.Went with 2 of my plant friends, was gone all day & most of the night as it took 2 hours to get there . Any way i bought this new light, called a grow panel, they are suppose to give you more light & no heat than others. it's color is neon pink & blue. thought i would try one as i have heard great reviews on them. I put it on my smaller light stand as you would probably need 2 for the larger 4x18 standAny way they are rather expensive, i paid 47,00 , that was a show price, there regular list price is 56.00 i think. anyway i will keep you all posted. hope i did'ent waist my money. lolOne of my other friends bought 2.i also bought a banana plant that i just love.the show was really nice, lots of flowers of course.here is a picture of the light , or the box the ,light came in.

glow panel
Hi ya Bonnie!
I've never heard of a Glow Panel so I had to google it. Really didn't find any information about them, but found a few for sale. Check this one out: http://www.wheatgrasskits.com/led_indoor_grow_light_growpanel_300.htm Now can you imagine paying $1,795.00 for something like that?
Found this one for $59.95: http://www.purplemountainorganics.com/Glow_Panel_LED.html
And, one on E-bay for $54.95 ... scroll down the page and see how pretty it looks when the light is on! http://cgi.ebay.com/LED-INDOOR-PLANT-GROW-LIGHT-LAMP-GLOW-PANEL-14-WATT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ350169942749
If they have both the red & blue light for plants, it should be a plus! Please keep us posted on how your plants look after a week or so of these new lights!
Very cool, mrsbonnie. The panel provides both the blue and the red spectrum which is the best. Glad you had fun at the show. Let us know how you like your new GlowPanel. I like the idea of little heat generation and economy. We all would like to save energy cost.
They look great Bonnie! Be sure and post pictures when it's all set up.

i purchased mine from sunshine systems. right now they have a sale on them i guess you would sya. they are 45.00, otherwise they are 54.95.i will keep you posted.
bonnie
should be awesome since as GoldLeaf said the red and blue spectrums are the ones absorbed & used by plants. definately keep us informed!
Wow, I'm thinking the higher cost would be paid for by the longer life (not to mention energy savings)... might be 4 times the cost of a T-8 fixture with 4 bulbs, but it lasts 50,000 hours... that's EIGHT AND A HALF years if you leave the light on 16 hours a day.
Keep us posted!
:-)
yes it does say 50.000 hr. life cycle, so it really is cheaper in the long run, it's just the initial cost is way to much if your first starting a stand. you would need 2 lights per shelf on the 4 ft. ones.ugh, so thats why i thought i would try 1 & see, then i can do 1 or 2 at a time.

I'm also wondering how well they would work as ceiling lights for a "plant room"... would they make enough light for happy tropical trees? Hmm. Long-range "in lieu of a greenhouse" thoughts... ;-)
no wonder some of mine are going down, might need to break down and get a few of these, thanks bonnie
JIM
i don't know how they would do for a main celiling light, as i don't think it would be bright enough ,you might think your in a weird place.lol they do come larger wattage, but of course it's more money.
bonnie
hmm ... if they were used as ceiling lights, some folks might think they were living back in the 60's - psychedelic lighting!
I just keep thinking about Larry's article... If you haven't read it, you have to click on this: http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/760/
These would be kinda psychadelic, I suppose... but shop-light style LED ceiling lights are probably not too far away...
A while back I tried to find out as much as I could about these LED Grow Panels. I was unable to find any positive information other then that supplied by the vendors. I've stuck with the Flour. fixtures, I use Phillps Alto Series bulbs. One 6500K and the other 2500K this combination covers just about all the color spectrum but range higher in the Red and Blue, and, at HD, you can pick these up for a 4" fixture for less then $15.00 for 4 tubes, two 6500 and two 2500.
The best Growing Under Lights info can be found searching info from people that really know how to grow under lights. Look up Growing "Cannabis" Under Lights. One thing your going to find is that most of them have given up on these LED Grow Panels.
I've picked up a string of each needed color to try them as supplements. One string of Red and one of Blue. The Red spectrum is good for growth and the Blue for flowering. While growing the plant I'm going to supplement the Fluorescent tubes with the Red LED's and then when I'm ready to Flower the plants I'll switch to the Blue as a supplement. I'll post again in a few months with results.
Again though...look for info on "Growing Cannabis Under Lights". People growing cash crops always go for the best! :)
what a wonderful article, critter, i had never read it before, & i thought i was bad.lol he did a great job, wish he lived next door to me. lolmy hubby would never even dream of it. lol anyway i will look up some growers who maybe have used these lights, see what they have to say.

I found it interesting that while I was researching lighting last summer, aLOT of info I got from the Growing Cannabis Under Lights people! I figured - if it works for them, it should work for me (on violets, that is!).
sure !!! lol
