Does anyone know of any cultivars of Begonia sutherlandii?
I'd like to find a tuberose begonia that is similar to B. sutherlandii in all respects but the color of the flower.
B. sutherlandii
You might like B. 'Airy Fairy' a Brad Thompson hybrid using B. dregei var. Glasgow X B. sutherlandii. (though not listed in their online catalog, you may be able to get it by phoning Kartuz Nursery directly, also inquire if Brad still has 'Airy Fairy Godmother')
Two others are B. 'Max Welton' or 'Weltonensis' both may be hard to find.
The ABS website also list a few other hybrids from B. sutherlandii but they are older hybrids that may have been lost to cultivation. http://www.begonias.org/search.htm?cx=003818858473749387496%3Azaeqvaybb-e&cof=FORID%3A11&q=sutherlandii&sa=Search#960
Here's a photo of 'Weltonensis' - it behaves less like B. sutherlandii than it's other parent (cant recall off the top of my head).
It's more of a semi-tuberous, caudex type. Easy to grow albeit a slow grower, flowers profusely. Not as mildew prone as B. sutherlandii.
