Hi, I'm new to this forum. I'm hoping there are some experienced dog trainers here.
I've been doing basic obedience training on some of the dogs coming into our local pound, and we got one yesterday that's going to be a challenge for me. "Tom" is an adult male, about 80#, neutered pit-x, a huge love, but as out of control as a wound up Pomeranian. We took him out today for his dog-dog aggression test (which he passed, we think) and he was all over me, jumping and hugging and pretty much out of control. No sign of aggression, just "irrational exuberance". He has no idea what "NO!" means.
Kneeing isn't even an option yet, I'm busy trying to keep my feet. I'll be taking the prong collar tomorrow and hopefully they'll withhold his breakfast so the treats will be high value. All I know of is to keep him on a short, short leash till I've got some control while I work him in the office... sit, stay off, walk nice.
I'm open to any ideas from folks who have dealt with such a large swarmer.
