Greetings from a newbie on Grand Bahama Island!

(Zone 11)

Originally from Virginia, gardening in Zone 11 is a new challenge! We are here from Nov to May every year, in what I call the Bahamian "outback" -- so peaceful and quiet and about 12 miles from the tourist area. It is a salt air environment with bountiful sun and wind, little to no native soil, and lots of rock/coral. We cleared the lot in Dec 07 (date of photo) and have made progress this winter on site improvements --temporary utilities, perimeter wall & fence and the dock . The cottage hasn't gone up yet, but will be started as soon as the foam block arrives! I have a little over 1 acre to work with and currently am starting with a 10' strip all around the perimeter -- and would prefer to xeiriscape (did I get that spelling right?). ANY help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance

Good Morning Lee.

arejay, your response was gracious and I appreciate it and it's nice to bid hello to someone but like the doofus I am, I wasn't paying attention and hailed you instead of welcoming coralbay. But anyway, it's nice to hear from you. LOL Lee

Robin, much of my 'confusion' is related to the fact that I only got about 2 hrs of sleep last night. I was so embarassed but you've been most gracious. Lee
It's nice to meet you, too

Welcome, Coral Bay. Wow!! Can you say 'blank slate?' That is sooo exciting. Sorry, I know nothing about xeriscaping or tropical gardening, but it will be fun watching this adventure unfold.
