This rode along with a Fourth of July tomato my DH picked up at the North Central plant swap last year in Arlington. The tomato plant is long gone, but I noticed this growing in the pot when I went to throw the dirt in the compost pile. Any ideas??
Any Idea What This Is?
It looks suspiciously like a weed I fight every summer. Will be curious if you get an ID on it...
Notice that it's not in the ground yet for precisely that reason!! LOL
I think it is either Pussy Toes, or Pearly Everlasting, a larval host for the Painted Lady and American Lady butterflies.

Well, hmmmmm....Guess I'll let it grow a bit more and see if it's really a keeper or not. If I decide I don't want it, I can always take it to the swap! LOL
I have found that it crops up a lot after horse manure has been added to beds. I've treated it as a weed...the horses must not feel that way. It does seem to have the ability to reproduce via some sort of runner. If you want it out of a bed get all those roots.
Please bring it to the swap, if it is Pussy Toes I really really want it.

The link is not the plant I was thinking of... Odd, it doesn't show TX as an area it grows in. Stephanie, please keep us posted on what it is?
I will have to search for an ID on the pest I get in the yard every summer. I can't blame horses for mine! LOL
edited to add, I agree with Blkhand. Mine spreads by runners and they root and when dry are the devil to dig out.

I am probably wrong, I couldn't find a picture of Pussy toes, I still would like to see it if you don't want it.

It's a novelty plant! LOL I'll nurse it along and we'll have a contest at the swap to see what it is!
Wow! that is neat, could you save some seed, Please?
Frostweed, I would be totally happy to save you some seeds! and as a matter of fact, could you direct me to the best place to learn how to collect seeds of native plants? I have a feeling I will be doing much more seed collecting.
Thank you so very much, here is a link to seed collecting, I hope it helps.
