Double Brug; Yields Single Bloom.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

I've overwintered a 'double peach' noid brug. The first few double blooms were malformed early on during the beginning of winter. Currently the brug yields two blooms. One is apparently single bloom, the other shows 1 1/2 skirt. What I meant is that the second skirt was malformed within the the outer skirt. Is this normal? For those that has experience with double brugs. Please share your thought?

This one is definately 'single' in appearance.

A second bloom, however, has an under developed skirt within:

Have you seen double blooming brug behave this way? Care to share?

It's normal for doubles or more to set some single blooms from time to time. However, if your noid double produces a lot of blooms that are deformed doubles, and unless you are attached to it for some reason, keep in mind that there are lots of other doubles out there that perform quite well. I always hated putting time into brugs that didn't perform like I expected them to. That's just me.

I haven't given the brug an optimum condition to produce/perform. Having been indoor over the winter too, I've not fed them on the regular basic. I'll try to give them a better environment to thrive this year. Until then, if the plant fails to live up to its potential, then I'll seek for a replacement. Thanks Brugie.

Lucky you to have blooms indoors. You are right....under those conditions, she hasn't had her chance yet. Good luck. She may end up being the brug of the year...

Well Kim.. it s lovely as a single.. youll have no trouble adopting it out that way.. but it sounds like it was a well behaving double last year for you.. and is strong willed enough to pump out single blooms.. dispite the less than optimum conditions inside.. it's trying .. It's often a behavior of theirs that they will start out with a few singles in the first flush.. getting themselves going.. and then become the double of your dreams in later flushes..
I Loved your daff's lakeside from the bulb thread... have you heard the story of the daffodil principle...

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Hi Gordon, thanks to both for your comments. Gordon, do tell of the Daffodils principles. :-)

Oh.. it's about a daughter showing her mother a field..a vally full of daffs.. all in bloom and looking grand.. the mother went up to read the small sign in front.. concerning the grand beauty there.. the sign read simply... yes.. 10,000 daffs.. make this grand scene... one lady.. planting one bulb at a time.....
guess it has to do with the tiny things we do that have a way of building up in our life.. for better or worse.. but interpertations are up to the individual... and you have the beauty of yours... even though you are away.. I've always thought of planting all my spare seeds all along my local routes..

Thanks Teresa, I'll soon move the brug outdoor, give it ample room to grow and feed it on a regular basic. Look out for more pix of her later in the growing season. :-)

Another Spring Kim do you still love your beautiful angels? Do you have many crosses to grow out this Spring?
That is a very pretty brug with or without a second skirt. Love the yellows.

Hi Chrissy, I do love my angels just as much, though I don't have any hybrids to show this year due to some personal set back. I tried to cross a double pink brug this past winter, but the seedpod was aborted early. Hopefully I can try that cross again this year under better growing condition. I'm glad to see you posting -- as always.

I hope all is well with you kim ...I think of you often as I tend my angels ...
