We have lift off!!!!

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I am so glad to finally get some seeds in the ground. I planted kohlrabi, butter crisp lettuce, black seeded simpson lettuce, carrots, aragula and chives. I peeked under the mulch and my rhubarb is making a come back. My onions that have been growing all winter look to be making some bulbs. I hope my garlic will begin to appear soon. I want to get my grow light hung today but right now I have to get to the barn to feed up. I hope the hens have blessed me with a couple of eggs I can put in my incubator. They have been stingy the last couple of days.

Congrats on your planting Cajun! I bet it felt good to get started.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

It sure did. It is suposed to rain tonight. I hope it's a light rain and not a gully washer. LOL

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

yes, congrats there! soon you'll really be living like me and standing in the kitchen processing carrots and broccoli to freeze for 2 hours--lol

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I need to get my broccoli planted. I love it cooked but can't abide it raw. Same with carrots and celery.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

carrots I can take shredded in salads; broccoli no. I love growing things, tending the plants, and harvesting. I just hate processing them--but still thankful to have them.

Gully washer is what we had today all day long up here in what I call the North Pole. At least after living in Danville Kentucky and having to move here that what the weather feels like up here.

I so miss being able to get out in March and start planting.... We are still at least another month to month and a half away from getting anything started outside.....

You luck one.... LOL

Send some warmth and sun up this how about it.....

Where is Danville? I know we will still have a couple of cold snaps to contend with. There will be Redbud winter and then Black Berry winter. Then we should be good to go. I am not a patient person. LOL

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

We got our rain. It came down hard for about 10 minutes then it quit. I hope it's over. I brought the cukes in.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

My DGS is less patient than me, it seems. We planted our seeds, then went to the barn and got back just in time for Easter play practice. After practice he looked at our vegetable beds with the flashlight and came back in the house. He said, with disgust, "I can't believe nothing's up yet. It's been hours!". LOL

CajuninKY: in Moreland off 127S. Used to live in Danville then moved to the outskirts of Danville. We were just home about 3 weeks ago to see DH family and my son and his wife came in from western KY where he is stationed at.

I so miss it, at least during the winter time but maybe not so much during the summer....lol

Is your son stationed at Fort Campbell?

We are seeing some signs of Spring. I was wondering if it would ever show up. LOL The redbuds are starting to bloom and the forsythias. The grass is greening up at the farm. Now it has to quit raining!

My lettuce, kohlrabi, pak choy, carrots, garlic and arugula are up and growing. The rhubarb is looking good. I also planted 10 strawberry plants in a barrel that are looking nice.

I have broccoli planted in the garden that I bought as plants and set out. They are growing well. I have broccoli sprouted indoors that I will put out before long. I also have blueberries and yellow and red wonder strawberries to be potted indoors. DGS's 1 lemon cuke is up. He is a proud farmer with his 1 cuke and his pair of bantam chickens.

Cajun

Yep good old Ft Campbell.... He just got stationed there in January. We are hoping to go out and see them within the next few months.

our forsythias are blooming up here, but like this morning we had such a hard frost like to have never gotten the window scraped off, so I gave up and started the car and came back in for a few minutes....

I have got quite a bit growing. The kohlrabi, carrots, black seeded simpson and buttercrisp lettuces, heading broccoli, aragula, dwarf bak choy, garlic, chives, strawberries and rhubarb are all up and doing well. I just planted spinach, romaine lettuce, radish, beets, swiss chard, sprouting broccoli, red dutch onions and white potatoes. I harvested my green onions. 56 really nice ones. I put the red onions in the same holes I pulled the green onions from. I seeded my tomatoes, peppers, watermelon, banana melon, egg plant, yard long peas and lady finger peas. I need to plant my blueberries and my red and yellow wonder strawberries.

CajuninKy,

What kind of sprouting broccoli did you plant?

I want to try some next planting season, it's probably too late here where I am now.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

It's Calabrese Green Sprouting from Baker Creek. It's the first time I have grown it. It is doing very well thus far.

Thank you!

Beautiful onions !!!!!!!

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks. I overwintered them in the garden. They were covered with ice and snow but they did great.

This is what they looked like the beginning of Spring. I didn't realize until I was cleaning them that some were going to seed. I would have left a few so I could have gotten my seed for the fall. I'll have to get more seed from my neighbor. He lets nearly all his go to seed.

Stick a couple of them back in the ground. They'll grow.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Should it be the ones that were getting the seed pod stalks and does it make a difference that I have cleaned up the bottoms by stripping the outside leaves?

Glen Ellyn, IL(Zone 5b)

I'd pick the ones with the best roots.
