Tubby: Yes I know, dumby me, but a lesson well learned. Make sure your plants have ventilation. These are the new ones and notice the roots on those cukes? Here is another pic:

My cukes are planted in Bob's coconut coir this time and they are doing beautifully. My tomatoes (the little ones) are in the bio dome but are doing well also, my lettuce is in the bio dome one and doing well with the cabbages. My spinach is still in the dome on the heating mat hoping they sprout soon. I ordered more pepper seeds and they are going to go right into the other coconut coir seed starting kit when they get here as they take forever and I really need to get them started. Same with the eggplant seeds I got coming in.

Joy, dear, do I understand that you planted spinach in a seedling tray? Or did I misunderstand you?

Crestview, FL

Devota: Yes, I put spinach in the biodome sponges in Park's biodome and then put a heating mat under it and a dome over it? Did I mess up? Suggestions please?

I just wondered if you were experimenting. I always sow in a raised bed or sometimes even a window box. Let me know how that works out when it is time to transplant. Should be interesting. D

I think yes.........no carrots, spinich, lettuce, etc. in a seed tray, direct sow and thin.

Karen you take the fun out of stuff, ya know?

Crestview, FL

Devota and darkmoondreamer: You guys know I'm a beginner right? LOL I just learned to direct plant my corn and carrot seeds, am I supposed to direct plant my lettuce and spinach seeds too? Oops, now what? How about cabbages, did I mess up by starting them in seed starting kits also? Help me out here you two.

Joy, the seed packets tell you all you need to know, [the back not the front.]
Karen, you DO know I was teasing you, girl?

Crestview, FL

Devota: The packets are in the trash somewheres now I'm sure since they was planted last week, can you tell me?

Afraid that I cannot see into your trash, Joy... but what Karen says is WORD. I suppose one could grow cabbage in a seed tray but I can't see the point of it.

Karen the little malamar spinach plant you sent me isn't doing well (nearly dead)..So you all are probaly right about not liking transplanting And the seeds i will direct sow..Good to hear you girls talking about this..

Haha, you gals are a mess! Devota, course I know your teasing hon! What fun is life if you can't tease and take a teasin' too?

Okay, newbie I am, I have been told by several people to direct sow carrots, spinach, celery, lettuces, cucumbers (yes, I know Joy ☺) radishes, cabbage, turnip greens, collards, broccoli and cauliflower. No need to start these in seed trays at all as they don't transplant well and do very well direct sowed. Just thin them.

I only used seed trays on tomatoes, some yellow squash and zucchini, but I probably could have even direct sowed the squash and zucchini.

I'm sure someone will come along and tell me I'm telling you wrong, LOL! But that is what I was told, and what I'm going to do.

Joy, you just have a case of pure-dee "too early" excitement hon. You've done too much too early for your area I think, and killing yourself trying to keep it all alive. It was a learning experience for you though, and I think next year you will start later. I noticed you said you ordered another Parks Biodome and sponges for more seed starting, I thought you were using Bob's trays now?

Crestview, FL

Devota: No, needed more sponges for the Park's bio domes I already have, and guess what? They are all on backorder, so I will be putting coconut coir in them instead, got plenty of coconut coir, my two coconut coir seed starting kits are reserved for my peppers and the other one has my cukes in it. Bob's coconut coir seed starting kits are kept in use continuously. LOL I have very few of the extra baskets left on those just holding off to use the last of those and hopefully will then be able to order more of them along with some of the EZ grow stackers of his at the same time. It's cheaper with postage on larger orders than smaller orders. I got 10 of the coconut coirs and they will last me a little while, gone through most of the extra seed starting refill baskets.

I'm done planting and seed starting though, except my peppers and they are definately going into coconut coir in Bob's seed starting kit as they will be late, I'm waiting on seeds right now. I will direct sow my carrot and corn into the EBs and hopefully, the lettuce and spinach and cabbage will do okay in the transplant to the EBs when the time comes. We are still in what is considered before the last frost here, our last frost date here is April 7th. Good thing I didn't move to Alaska, I'd of probably moved to the warmest city there right? LOL

I don't direct sow my cucumbers and they do great, but as far as the leafy stuff yep...those I do. I took pictures yesterday let me try and label em and I'll post on another thread so I don't hijack yours.

Crestview, FL

Araness: So; you direct seed your lettuce, spinach and cabbages in an EB? Wow, that would be a lot easier than starting them in a seed starter kit, I like that idea if it works? I know we are supposed to direct plant carrot seeds and corn seeds into the EB; but didn't know of any other veggies we direct seed. Do you direct seed cukes in EBs too? Cukes seem to sprout up really fast, I'm finding the slowest veggies thus far to sprout are: peppers, spinach and eggplant, everything else seems to be pretty fast.

I don't no, I start my cucumbers from seeds but most direct sow and it works out great. Peppers I start under a heat mat as they need a higher heat to germinate than my others.

Araness: Was so busy today, my nephew and I weeded all the canna lily beds and I dug out all the murdered toms, replacing them with chocolate cherry ones and vilmas and romas. Tomorrow I plant my lettuce in an EB and cukes into the hanging basket. Hopefully, Park' will rush my pepper seeds to me so I can get them planted into Bob's coconut coir seed starting kit.
