I am looking for African Blue basil plants or cuttings--or any variety of basil that doesn't die after blooming and can be wintered over in the Gh. I don't have any herbs--but do have LOTS of other stuff--check my tradelist.
Wanted: African blue basil
If you can hold off till First part of april, this nursery I go to in Batesville sells ALL kinds of basil plants, Last year I bought the
perpetual, greek column, variegated african blue and regular african blue and Pepper basil which is hard to find. I plan on going there this year around the first part of april and getting a few formyself. I think the price on them last year was 3.00 for a quart and they were huge. about l5 inches tall and full . I can pick up some for you too if youwant, andyou can just pay me for them pp I'll ship them to you. Just let me know which ones for sure you want. They have the regular basil also. I'm planning on picking up a greek column basil for someone else here on daves too to ship to them.
Kathy_ann...........I'd be interested if you wouldn't mind tagging another on to your shopping list. I'd like to get the variegated african blue.
Oh...and if you come across CHOCOLATE Basil........I want every plant they have.

Any and all perennial types that you are willing to pick up would be awesome!! jlmk and I will pp!! btw-- keep forgetting to ship the honey bush--jury duty. weather is s'posed to turn off cold end of this week-- but once my commitment is over and it looks warmer I'll ship asap Thanx!!!
Hold off on the honey bush, I'm headed up to Indiana next week. so no hurry.
I didn't think any basils were perennial though, I know the lemon basil reseeds itself. But no basil I've ever grown will come back for me. so you still want to try them? I was simply amazed last year at the size of the plants in the pots. The pepper basils were smaller than the others but quite healthy. I don't know what varieties they'll have this year though. I'll find out when I go over there.
msjponies, I'll see what I can do, they should have plenty. since it will be the beginning of the growing season.
I have to make a mental note now,
LOL So I don't forget anything
The african blue basil will survive & thrive in the gh for several years, as long as you keep it de-budded. the last one I had was about 5 yrs old before it died. I forgot to root cuttings and then I didn't have it any more
Well, I'm not really sure which will survive in the greenhouse, so I'm not really sure which to get you other than the african blue. you want to try any others? or just stick with the african blue?
I'll try the perpetual and var African blue too--if you don't mind getting thoseas well^_^
not at all.
So I'll get you the regular, and variegated african blue and the variegated perpetual basil also.
Pick up an extra v african blue for mjsponies and one greek column for another dger
kathy....I found a place close to me that has this, so no need to get it for me...
thanks!!
Ok,
Thanks Kathy_ann !!
Tommie, I went by that nursery yesterday, still a littl early for them. Had to go near there for another reason, thought i'd stop and see if they had anything out yet. Probably another 3 to 4 weeks yet before they put out the stuff that doesn't get frost bite.
Just wanted to check in with you
Thanks-- any time is fine!! Are you home now? Will send your honeybush out next week if you are.
Yes, I'm home. thanks. Next week is great.
I'll trade you the basil for the honeybush, sound good?
No-- I am more than happy to pay for the basil-- the honeybush is a gift^_^
That's very kind of you. Maybe one day I'll be able to return the favor, but I hope it's for different reasons than a burnt to the ground greenhouse LOL
How many trades have we made over the past few years? Some of my favorite plants have come from you. I always felt I received more than I gave and I am happy to send this to ya!!
That makes me feel good, thank you. I appreciate that. But you know I was always happy with your end of the trade too.
Ok, then, I'll be looking for that honeybush next week LOL
I really push the zone here, we should really be zone 6, right at the edge of the ozarks, but if your further north than me, then I should be ok, with planting the honeybush in the ground, it sure is a pretty plant.
I'm a zone pusher too-- I have a tropical water lily that has wintered over outside for the last 4 years-- i just divided it last week. ^_^
