Hail, Brugs, and Blue Ribbons.....

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

For the November Flower Show, I entered, among other things, some blooming brug stems. We'd had a terrific hail storm in May that blew plants and tags all over the yard. Some DGers were kind enough to send me cuttings, some with odd names. So, when I saw a perfect yellow bloom with the tag intact in the pot identifying it as "Naked Lady," I took it along too.....and it won a blue ribbon. I know now that the tag was for the "Naked Lady" bulbs that were planted around the base of the brug and had disappeared for the winter. They were from a tropical co-op last summer, so arrived after their bloom cycle. I just stuck them in a pot, and probably stuck a brug cutting in later, thinking the pot was empty. I even gave the cutting to someone at the show who asked for it. So if anyone tries to sell you a Naked Lady this spring.........I think it's going to be Chas. Grim.

I was looking forward to the picture....LOL!

Had to search for a photo....
Gee, if I admit how stupid I was...I might have to give the ribbon back... It's the orange one in the middle, and if you look on the card right in the center, partially hidden by leaf you can see..."Naked Lady" as the variety. I think those are all mine.....now that I look at photo. The orange was yellow when I picked it. People sometimes come up after a show and ask for the cut flowers...especially roses...to try and propagate.

Wow, look at all the blue ribbons. She sure held her form after being cut from the plant, but I don't see anything naked. LOL! Congratulations. Funny story.

Thanks guys...but the worst of the story is I'm on the Horticulture Classification team for the garden club shows. We make sure plant entries have correct class/genus/variety on tag before they are accepted for judging.

oops! Guess the joke is on you! If this is bothering you a lot, you might want to own up to the team and see what they want to do... they may just want to let it pass .. it was an honest mistake.

Oh it's all okay, not bothering me at all....just another amusing aside to the story. Guess I shouldn't had written "worst," but "funnier." We don't take ourselves that seriously. 'Don't check our own entries, anyway. Someone else has to initial and sign off on them.

Then, the joke is on them..something for you to smile about!

I think it is still great that you have blue ribbons! YAY!
