Saw this birdie in Brazos bend park a month ago. I have narrowed it down to a waterthrush, but can't tell if it is Northern or Louisianna. Louisianna would make the most since, given the range and time of year, but the Norhtern does also pass through here and I figure it is possible this is one that stayed behind.
What do all you "experts" think?
In this first one it is staring straight at me
CLOSED: Waterthrush
Not a warbler.... it's a water pipit.
I tried to find a water pipit in my Birds of Texas book, but can't seem to find it. I did a quick google search and found a water pipit (Anthus spinoletta) but it says they are in Europe/Asia. Does the bird you are referencing to go by another name (or even better, do you know the latin name?)
Water Pipit is Anthus spinoletta, and it is a North American native. I did a quick check - the names seem to be current (despite all the lumping and splitting that's occurred since the last time we bought a bird guide).
American Pipit a.k.a. Buff-bellied Pipit Anthus rubescens. It was split from Water Pipit a few years ago.

Ok I think I've got it. Mine is the rubescens, not spinoletta, right? And here I was convinced it was a waterthrush. So confusing!
I see... foiled by the splitters. Well, it's still the bird I thought it was, only the names have changed, LOL!
Mine is the rubescens, not spinoletta, right?
Yep!

Ok thanks everyone!
