Does Color Count?

Lakeview, OR(Zone 7b)

I just took this photo of my hoya 'lizard isle' after I had tied it up. This section is as cream color; it is pliable like the rest of the vine. I wonder if it is dying or what? I hope you can see the picture good enough. Cheryl

Cheryl, it just looks like that part of the vine may be dead. It happens to mine sometimes and I just cut the dead part away.

Is that the honest-to-goodness real name of that hoya? Have never heard of it. Great looking, tho! Love your collection of tea cups in the background.

Rob's Violet's has H. australis they are calling Lizard Isle: http://www.robsviolet.com/hoyas.htm

... who knows where the name "Lizard Isle" came from.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

I will bet you $$ to donuts it is just plain old australis....

By the way.... thier H. coronaria is really H. australis. H. coronaria is an Eriostemma hoya with LARGE over an inch wide white flowers....

Hoya diptera is photoshopped...the bloom is NOT that yellow but if you notice the whole photo, it is yellowed.

v means nothing botanically. They probably mean var. or variety. I question the variety.

H. purpureofusca is obviously H. pubicalyx 'Pink Silver'. Some grower started that confusion and it still thrives. H. purpureofusca is palmately veined and the flowers are purple....NOT pink and they are different from the publicalyx like a horse and a mule.

I will bet you $$ to my aunts hat that H. longifolia is H. shepherdii.

H. tsangii does NOT HAVE RED FLowers....it has been determined that H. odettiae is really H. tsangii.

Don't the commercial houses who tout hoyas and claim to be such great growers even care????

Sorry...I am sounding like someone i don't really like...but...manomacaroni...this is annoying!!!

**************I hope this is a lesson and that anyone buying from someone like this nursery do an investigation before buying/trading/selling a cutting. One of the reasons they get away with it is that no one ever questions them and they keep selling that stuff under the wrong names .... and do they care....NO.
