Saved okra seed questions - Melody? You out there?

Brighton, MO(Zone 6a)

I grew a pretty nice stand of Clemson Spineless okra last year. Late in the season I let a few pods dry to harvest the seeds. The pods laid around the sunroom for a while, then one day my wife broke them open and put the seeds in a pill bottle and put it in a cupboard.

Is that it? Do I need to do anything special?

Also, if I plant another variety along with the CS this year, what do I do to prevent cross-pollination for the pods I want to harvest for seed this year?

jeffins you need to soak the Clemson okra seeds overnight before planting...

It is ok to soak okra seeds, may speed up emergence a bit. Not necessary tho. I don't and it does fine.

I don't soak the seeds either.

Thanks for the clarification guys....the person that gave me the seeds told me to soak, so I did, and they did germinate extremely fast. Good to know I don't have to though :)

The old time gardeners soak here and so I will too. The only other suggestion I will make on Okra is to wait till it is warm to germinate the seed. It just doesn't seem to want to sprout till hot.

Thanks to all. Yes, podster, I know I am several weeks too early to be thinking about planting okra. It's time to put "some" stuff in the ground, so it gets me thinking about "all" the stuff I want to put in the ground ;-)
