Sex question

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Okay, it's really a gender question, but it got your attention, didn't it?

Catscan pointed out that barnevelder pullets have brown or tan chests, and cockerels have white or beige chests. What other chickens have a distinction like that? Just curious.

lol! You peaked alot of interest!

Lodi, United States

With Salmon (and Mahogany apparently) Faverolles, as soon as the young chicks get the start of their wing feathers (first weekish) the boys have black/dark brown/grey and the girls have light brown. It is especially noticeable on their "shoulders". Not quite as quick as the Barnevelders--but not bad.

With Barnevelder/Welsummer and some other partridge colored chicks--the girls have much darker heads with a definite "V"--but you need both sexes to make the comparison.
