Help w/ ID?

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

First I must appologize for the very bad images, but bad weather and distance...........you know.

Bird is about jay size, and quite dark with some lighter areas on head, throat and underwing. Very distinctive tail shape, like that of a dove.

A grackle of some kind, perhaps?

That looks like a Grackle to me The tail shape reminds me of the ones here which are Common Grackles.

We'll see what Resin says.

Does look rather like a Common Grackle . . . which is anything but common in Oregon! Or perhaps a female Great-tailed Grackle (tail not long enough for male G-tG).

Worth sending these photos to your regional rarities committee to see what they think.

Thanks!

I've sent the images to the person that records our county sightings. Had I kept my awful pix of the Great-tailed Grackle (male) that came through here two springs in a row, it would have been recorded a county first!

I didn't then know where/who to contact, and was reporting to the local Ranger Station. Ron (records keeper) contacted me after a local Audubon article of my documentation of about 40 new (to my yard) bird species since the creek rehab was done. We'll remain in contact!

I thought it odd that the fellow at the Ranger Station sent my pix all over the country, but didn't bother with getting it recorded.
