Been one of those weeks

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

Well I guess we're not done with the cold weather just yet. I can't believe we could get a few inches of snow in March - plus the near teens weather again tomorrow night.

I'm having a bad week to say the least as it is. I got a letter on Tuesday from my Home Owner's Association telling me both my portable greenhouses have to come down in the backyard. Apparently they are unapproved "sheds." Any other time I'd probably not have cared, but this has been a bad week...

I have several friends here, so just FYI - I may be off the site for some time. I've got a personal family issue which is really causing a lot of pain right now. Even my garden/plants are just 'work' this week; I can hardly keep up with everything at the house. I ask you guys keep us in your prayers. I could use them right now.

So sorry to hear of your diffuculties, K. Take care of yourself. We'll be thinking of you.

(And don't you just hate homeowners' associations!!)

Hoping for warm weather and good things for you!

Homeowners associations - bah humbug! Wish we could help you out somehow. How about some of those greenhouses across the street from your office. Do you think they would rent you a bit of space maybe?

Hold on tight John, we are all here for you. I certainly consider you my good friend. With your suggestions and advice the Hawaii vacation is coming together nicely.

Sending good thoughts (and a few hugs too) to you.

I'm really sorry to hear about your woes, John. Life can really pile on sometimes.

I wonder if the homeowners association would accept a compromise -- say, let you keep one greenhouse? Or is there a location where they might not show as much? Sometimes there's a process sort of like an appeal that can be made to another committee of the association. And by all means, ask for adequate time to make provisions for the plants. They're obviously not gardeners, but perhaps they'd be more patient if you explain the plants' monetary value.

My next-door neighbor has several odd-looking contraptions in his back yard, the ugliest one being a bright blue tarp over a 7' odd structure, but I would never complain. The fellow is in his mid-80's, had major heart surgery last year, and I say, go ahead and play outdoors to your heart's content. And, yes, we live in a homeowners association neighborhood.

Glad to say a prayer for you, K~

K: Got you and yours on my prayer list. Family issues can really drag you down. Been there, still there, doing it.

The HA thing doesn't help, but at least warmer weather is around the corner (I hope as I look out at snow), so maybe between now and next winter another solution will present itself when you're better able to deal with it.

Chin up!

Hey, K.
Been busy and off list for a while, but just got back on and am sure thinking about you.
Prayers for patience are with you - I always say that I pray for patience, because if I pray for strength I might beat something to death! LOL As Emily Lotilla always said, It's always somethin.
Seriously, you have friends here that think of you. And I do hope that your HAss (with the accent on the last 3 letters) will give you some time to relocate those greenhouses. If push comes to shove you can put one up in my backyard, I have a big one and no HA in Whitehall (no covenants, that is) .

Focus on family and try to solve what you can , mediate what you cannot, come to terms with the rest. That is all that any of us can do.

And then after all that hoo-ha about 5 inches of snow here in Colatown we got not one lil flake, not one!
My plants are happy with all of the rain, but I actually hoped that we would have some snow for the neighborood kids. They are all home today - gonna have to build a rain man instead of a snowman.

Sunny and warm outside now, gonna go get muddy.

Thinking of you

((((hugs))))) John I have had a bad 2 weeks. I gotta get my green House going as I have all the holes Cauked I hope.
A friend died last week and it has been real cold so everyone here and where you are are depressed kinda. In a few days it will warm up and we will get a good dose of warm sunshine and the world will look better.

I had my seeds all planted in little green houses last year by Feb. 15th this year I have not planted anything yet.

Thanks everyone, I do appreciate it. You all are very kind. I guess it's safe to say I'll be gardening (and most everything else) solo this year - not exactly something I saw coming in my life a week ago. Tasha's fine, we're just taking different paths I guess now. It's been pretty hard for me. At least I'll soon have my garden to immerse myself in - clear my head some.

On a more positive note, I got in touch with my HOA and they will allow me to keep up the GH until April 15th, so at least I have until the danger of frost has passed.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend Lavina. Let's hope the warmer and longer days ahead bring some happiness back into these gloomy cold days.

John: When things get sorted out and life settles into a routine again, we'll be here waiting for you. I know you'll find much solace in your garden as life changes direction for you. God's blessings.

Well at least the HOA came to their senses, sort of.

Longer, warmer days are ahead. Hang in there.

John, I think there is alot of sadness in our Country today. Economy, etc. Get in that yard and greenhouse and let the world go by. We are all here for you and want to hear from you. Let us know what's blooming in your yard and what your plans for Spring are. So glad the HOA is working with you. We have so many new subdivisions in our area and that is one conplaint I constantly hear from people who love to garden. I tell them to come play in my yard. No HOA !
Hang tuff and remember that your gardening friends are the best and will always have you in our prayers.
