Here are some new photos of the garden. This was taken a few days ago.

This was taken a week ago, it was raining. We got a little over 1/2 inch. It was a nice gentle rain and not cold. The rest of the week we had really warm temps in the 80's and 30-40mph south wind. Today the wind is out of the north and it's supposed to go into the 40's tonight. Brrr.....

This is the newer garden, the photo was taken last week in the rain. Things have really grown since then. I forgot to take a more recent photo.

The grackles were picking out the corn when it would germinate. They were also eating the watermelons when they would pop out of the ground. We call this a "scare grackle." It's been driving the neighbors crazy trying to figure out what the pink ribbons are fluttering in the wind. Some days, especially in the strong winds we've been having this week, the ribbons make a singing noise and really fly around. It's working, no more grackle damage.

Very nice garden!!! Picked some radishes and collards yesterday. Had to cover everything yesterday since it was 34 degrees last night with a strong wind. Hope my tomato plants make it!!!

Your gardens are beautiful, Calalily. What all are you growing? And what do you use for weed control?

Becky, we had strong winds too. It was 47*F this morning so I knew north of us was probably a lot colder.
Ice_worm, I use partially composted grass clippings for mulch. If a weed does pop up, it is easy to pull.
The list of what I'm growing is pretty long. I have radishes, lettuce, pac choi, onions, garlic, shallots, beans, potatoes, carrots, cilantro, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, tomatoes, kohlrabi, turnips, mustard, corn, cucumbers cantaloupes, watermelons, honeydews, squash......more than one variety of many things, and I've probably forgotten some things.

WOW! You grow a lot of the same things I do. Plus things that wouldn't stand a chance here. That's great!

Calalily, when my garden grows up it wants to be just like yours! Well, not the palm trees...put cows where the palm trees are. And I have a bigger fence ready to put in when the wind dies down--due to the cows and others. But after that just like yours. Keep posting the photos...DH is a city boy and doesn't get the veg garden thing so pictures really help!

Terri, do you have constant wind there?
I bet you need a much bigger fence to keep the cows from eating the veggies! My fence is to keep dogs, armadillos and rabbits out.

The wind was really bad this past weekend. Generally we do have a breeze at our house as it is in the middle of a hay/cattle field. It is usually a great breeze at the end of the day on the back screen porch type of breeze.

We just installed a Centaur fence to keep the cows out of the yard and my rose beds (they kept getting past the last fence). For the veg garden we are doing a five strand coated wire fence. It will keep the cows/calves out and I can add electric if the ferral hogs or that pesky coyote returns. We also have a problem with the neighbors dogs; however, we are leasing the grazing rights to the property and the owner of the cattle has just reached the end of his rope regarding the neighbor's dogs. He is kindly taking care of the matter for me and I'm not asking how....it's a long story.

Terri, I completely understand about neighbor's dogs! (there are a couple here that drive me up a wall because the owner turns them out twice a day to do their business in other people's yards)
