Questions from a newbie

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Hello Brugmania folks!

Not new to gardening or DG, but new to brugs and would really like to have success this summer with one or a couple.

I've been meandering the DG Marketplace, eBay, and other sources to order my first babies (victims?) from.
Any particular varieties recommended for first time growing?
Should I start with plants or can I succeed with cuttings?
Recommendations? Advice? Warnings? All help is appreciated... don't be shy!
I noted a red (sanguinea?) on eBay for sell as cutting, with some Q&A that they couldn't be rooted from cuttings... opinions on that?

Thanks so much!

A good evening to you all...

Karen, I am new to brugs as of last spring when I bought my first rooted plant from Park Seed. It has grown to five ft and has bloomed once, over Christmas.

I was given cuttings of all my others. I tried several ways of rooting the cuttings. Only lost three. The other 15 are thriving and waiting to get into the ground and/or be given to family and friends. I also have 10 seedlings. I have tried brugs every way.

So, you can succeed with cuttings. You can buy one already rooted. It's up to you and what's available. Stick around, I know there will be others that will help you. I still consider myself a very blessed brug novice.

if you're looking to buy quality plants, Country Gardens, have really nice Brugs at really good prices, right now. I have
been growing Brugs for 8yrs now, in my zone I have to dig mine up before frost, winter them over in my basement
anyway, the more you grow them the better you get at it, once you smell the blooms on them you are hooked,
one just isn't enough,

Amen, it's like an addiction. That's how I ended up with so many. I have to make myself stop. Of course with seedlings, it really looks like I've stopped huh? ;)

Is Country Gardens on-line or elsewhere?

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Wild... it's on line
http://countrygdn.com/ you'll surely do well there.. but there are others also..

try LIZ>>>>Liz>>> Post your site here.. I can't find it out there and the link on Dave's watchdog isn't a good one... best clear that up also... for us all..

Plants woud best for you to start.... you'll likely get blooms this year from them.. if you feed them ..lots and often.. All you have to do is descide on what color you'd like... white/pink/yellow/peach / a single flower.. or a double or triple bloom.. it's easy
best of luck with them..

I think I'd really like the single peach, to begin with...
And yes, I'd really like blooms this summer... big ones! (being overly confident here!)

Liz's site is http://arghyagardens.com but you will probably find her in the Dave's Marketplace as Gordo or on Ebay as impower56

Wild..yes,you should get blooms this year from decent sized plants.Size does matter;always ask.Sometimes vendors will even mail you one with buds if one is available.

Karen,
Girl, now you know you should dmail me!!! LOL Only started with Brugs last year...but happy to share cuttings AND may even have a "full size" (for our area at least) that I'd be happy to give you - sans the pot of course.

How much sunlight should brugs get? I'm wondering where to put mine once the frost danger is over with. Which I hope is soon! I'm tired of moving my plants to the garage.
