I could be crazy but.........

Ok, I have stated that I have no patience, but am really trying hard!! Today I am rearranging things in my great room. I decided to bring up a reading lamp that I have and put a grow bulb in it. Under it I placed the largest of my 3 streps, two chiritas (one on each side, 2 AV's. Ok, this was maybe an hour ago, I was working on this project between loads of clothes. I decided I would sneak 3 small potted AV's that do not look so good in there where it didn't show from the front. ALL of these plants I had put there earlier were already perking up and leaning towards the light. I gotta stop watching them like this! LOL:)

I had them under one of those shop/grow lights from Walmart this entire time, I don't think its enough. I am thinking if I took the cover off? Has anyone else had this problem? This light gets turned on each AM when I get up and turned off when I go to bed!

I did that with 3 AVs. Finally put them under a table lamp. Within the hour I swear they were greener.

You need to use 1 cool white and 1 warm white in your regular fluorescent fixtures. This gives the correct color spectrum for good growth. Just remember-- plants are green because that is the color that is reflected--not absorbed. they need reds and blues for growth etc^_^ distance from the light and the age of the bulbs are factors too.

This light is a GE 64, its a little over a ft. above the plants, but I'm writing down the cool white and warm light for the others, is there a certain wattage? I'm going to get a bloom somewhere if it kills me!!! My friend in Louisianna has started me a couple of plants, I told her to keep them there, but the will be mine, and when they bloom take me pictures of my plants!LOL She is like you gals, stick her finger in and it grows!!

Fluorescent bulbs get weaker as they age, I think. Mine certainly got bright when hubby decided to try new bulbs. I have taken the covers off of mine, I think that makes a difference too.

Oh good, then I'm NOT crazy, (well at least with this thought)! Thanks for putting me on the right track everyone. Laura H
