some more info:
Saxifraga

Touran series. Perennials continue to gain in popularity with consumers. With the lack of time they have, consumers want to have items in the garden that will come back each year without a lot of trouble. The seed version of the Saxifraga arendsii is much smaller all around. However, varieties in the Touran series have bigger flowers and a taller, more upright form. The four colors in the series — Deep Red, Neon Rose, Scarlet and White — are very interesting and should catch consumers’ attention at retail. There is a lot of appeal with this new variety and even more consumer potential. S&G Flowers. www.sg-flowers.com

looks like I should plant it in partial shade area that gets water from my neighbors misdirected sprinklers (one of my neighbors sprinklers waters a partial shade area in my yard....happy to not say anything about it).

Saxifraga × arendsii Touran™ Neon Rose
Common name : Mossy Saxifrage
USDA Zone: 4 - 9
(= 'Rockrose') The Saxifrage include a huge number of alpines. This selection is a good choice for the partially shaded scree garden, wall or alpine trough. It forms a low evergreen cushion or mound of bright green leaves, bearing short stems of upfacing, cup-shaped bright-pink flowers in spring. Requires a cool, moist location. Dislikes drought and hot humid summer weather. Shear lightly after blooming to remove the flower stems and encourage compact new growth. Adapts well to growing in clay pots or alpine troughs. A light top-dressing of sand right after flowering will help to keep the clumps tight and free from root-rot. Do not prune back in autumn or spring. Selected by international breeder Syngenta Flowers. USPP#19301, CPBRAF: unlicensed propagation prohibited.

just picked one up at Lowe's, they had them in three different colors. Will plant Monday or Tuesday depending on wind and temperature.

So, this thread ended in 2009. After a few years, how are the plants doing? I just bought a few and am wondering how they hold up. I notice in researching, they don't like humidity. Uh-oh--we have humidity. So, I am wondering if I just wasted my money. I don't know why they would be offered in this area unless they are suitable to grow here.

I was thinking of buying some this spring but have my doubts about them tolerating hot weather in general.

Update: Mine died when the weather got really. I could not keep it watered. Also, last summer was hotter and drier than normal.

I don't think they come from hot weather areas, at least not as hot here. They sure are pretty though.

Yes, they are pretty and were offered at Lowe's. One cannot assume the plants Lowe's sells will actually "grow" in the area they offer the plants. From now on, I am going to research the plants I am unfamiliar with before I buy them at Lowe's.

It's not just Lowes, I see unsuitable plants at Calloways and other nurseries.

You just have to do your research before impulse buying!
