Help with planting my Dahlias

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

I got 20 dahlias last year. They were beautiful I dug them up and now have about 60 dahlias. When is the best time to replant them and what is the best soil prep for them. I was told to put bone meal in with each bulb, tuber what have ya. Is that right. I had someone rototill my flower bed last week and then it rained all week so now I have a mud waller. It will have to dry out a bit before I do any replanting but I just wanted to know what I should add to get the best blooms.
Thanks

Hi Jan - I would direct you to the Dahlia forum & check out anything that "Poochella" has posted. She is a premiere Dahlia grower & lives east of Seattle, in a cooler zone than you. She has contributed a wealth of information here on DG & is very kind to share that knowledge & expertise. We defer to her in all matters Dahlia: she can tell you better than any of us!
As far as planting, you are going to wait a bit; it is important that the ground not be soaking wet, and the temps higher.
I wish I had links for you, but do a search on threads she has started. Grab a cup of coffee & be prepared to take notes. She's great - you'll appreciate the information that's there!

Thanks so much willowwind2
I looked all over for you in my emails to let you know how well they multiplied. Wow, I have to enlarge my bed now. Thats fine by me and the one that I liked the best was called Summers End, I think. It was just beautiful.

A little bone meal should be good. What did you put in last year? I never do anything to mine, but fertilizer always helps. Nice to hear from you again.

I didn't do anything but my neigbors dahlias were gorgeous and she said she added bone meal into every hole that she put the tubers. She also cut them back so that they would bush out more. I will take a pic of hers this year to show you.
Nice to hear from you too.

Sounds like she know how to do it. Both of those things will do nicely.
