I actually got a butterfly pic!

Fern Park, FL(Zone 9b)

It seems I always see butterflies in the yard when I don't have my camera handy. I was so excited the other day when I finally caught a butterfly in my yard on camera! Can someone tell me what this one is called?

It looks like a monarch; they're beautiful. Is that a lantana plant?

Congrats! Now that you've got your first butterfly pic, keep going! In time you'll learn how to catch those lovely creatures in a photo on a regular basis! Have you got plenty of butterfly plants? Is that a penta?

The plant is a pentas. Thanks for the ID! I've got some firespike, jatropha, pentas, lantana, and hibiscus in the same bed. In other areas of the yard I have coral honeysuckle and firebush (Hamelia patens). I just love watching creatures enjoy my yard :)

Congrats Passi!!! Can't wait until we read about you raising eggs and caterpillars and releasing the butterflies!!! :o)

The Monarch is a male if you want to know. See the two black dots on the lower wing on one of the veins of black.
If you plant some milkweed the females will lay eggs; as they are the host plants that the Monarch caterpillar eats.

Be careful Passiflora it becomes addictive, it is for me. I never go out in the garden without a camera near. HAVE FUN!
