Has anyone else made or seen fun, fun planters?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Here is one from a local nursery that I just adore. It was stuffed with plants in the trunk, inside the car in the seats, in the hood and even under the hood!

They even had a palm growing thru the roof. LOL

Growing up we had a neighbor whose car looked like that, only they weren't put there on purpose, lol.

I had forgotten I had started this thread. Too bad they didn't know what fun planters they could be, Cathy. LOL Then again, it seems no one likes it but me so maybe that is good they didn't convert them.

The same place had living picture using succulents. I loved that too!

I'd like to see that in person.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

I agree on the living picture. Would love to see that one.

In this area, it seems life imitates art although the culture is not quite as refined (read no Edsels) All too common to say oh wow. Real trees growing in them too. 8 )

My mother always threatened to sneak over there at night and throw morning glory seeds in it. At least part of the day it would have been pretty.

Hi
I'm a newbie and I was just exploring the forums, anyway I took a trip to South America a year ago and saw this car in a town called Colonia in Uruguay, I hope the picture posts OK

Today I was buying little succulents to try a small living picture!

Morning glories would have really been great, Cathy. Your Mom should have done it. LOL

WELCOME Imageneer! I am so glad you stopped by on your first day here. I actually like your car better than mine! LOL And that succulent pot is great too! Come on over to the California Forum and post that pic on a succulent thread. I bet others would love to see it too!

So........which makes the best container, chevy or ford?

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

I'm sure our neighbor's planter was a chevy, minus any windows or hood.

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

So, Kell, where is that place with the succulent picture???? That is way cool. Looks like a map, sorta.

Love the cars too..... the one in Uruguay is gorgeous, beautiful photo.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Just think of the brand new GM's that we can use soon.LOL

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

*snort* Oh, yes, we can actually GROW the cars........ LOL!

Redding, CA(Zone 8b)

My flower power car. My sister came up with the idea and bought it for us. It filled out really nice with the plants hanging down the doors. Can't find the picture.

Hoping to improve on it. Someone said they have spoke wheel fans that turn with the wind, thought that would be neat.

May cut a hole in the top of it this year, and add a tall plant coming out the roof (sunflower?).

Of all the car planters I like this one best.
WOW What a color.
If your going to be outrageous, go all the way

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Hi, My DD was a police dispatcher. One day a call came in about a car full of marijuanna. Sure enough some one had planted an old car full of marijuna plants. She said they looked very healthy. LOL!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

A sunflower would look so cute growing up and out of the roof. I love the planter! LOL

Here is a close up of how they cut the roof on the first car in this thread.

Gives new meaning to the word sun roof. :)

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Great pictures.

Kell I loved the old Edsel planter.

Bareroots, the Yellow Bug is great, and sunflowers would be a wonderful additive.

Imagineer, When I was in SA a few years ago, we didn't get to go into Uruaguay so didn't get to see that car . HeHe.

Ge1836, I am afraid you are right. I have a keeper, A 1994 Chevy S10. I bought it new and had it repainted immediately. I ordered a silver one but had much of it painted my favorite color Lavender. My license plate reads LAV. LADY. Not planting in it yet LOL

Kell, thank you so much for the picture of the sun roof--LOL I just love the way they cut it. It should be easier to cut that way I would think. Can't wait to do mine now.

I really need to do this. Even though we have had lots of rain recently I have still go out and water the VW. The perennials in the middle of the car never get any water. They could use a little more sun too.

"Even though we have had lots of rain recently I have still go out and water the VW. The perennials in the middle of the car never get any water"

this cracks me up.

love it.

The man down the street has an old tractor in the middle of his front yard garden, I think I should be able to put an old VW in mine, don't you think?

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

Yes.

Chewelah, WA(Zone 5a)

I LOVE these pictures! But don't you think they should have used a lemon tree instead of a palm in that Edsel? Tee hee.

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

good one!

Trenton, MI(Zone 5b)

ge1836, I must have not understood your remark , 'Just think of the brand new GM's that we can use soon.LOL' , since I am the proud owner of several American made cars which have lasted many year and are in great condition. :o)

Look like a VW makes a nice planter too.

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

I'm thinking they meant that GM is in serious trouble, and may not survive this economic upheaval.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thats right.
GM Dealers were giving a car away when you buy a truck. They need to decrease inventory.

Trenton, MI(Zone 5b)

Glad to hear you bought an American Made Truck and got a free car to boot. What a Great Deal!!!! I'm sure any of the 3 American Auto Makers don't mind what you use their car/trucks for as long as you buy American. :o)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gosh that is a good deal to get a free car. I need to buy a new car this year. Mine looks like the first picture but I am driving it around. We call it the dirtmobile. I could plant in it just with the dirt in the back. I haul so many plants in it.

Bareroots, have you considered opening the trunk and planting in it? I guess the hood is too big to have it open.

Here is a bed that changes with the seasons. It is in the front of a charming bed and breakfast in Half Moon Bay in Ca - a lovely little coastal town that I love to visit.

The summer bed is a bit less busy and I think much nicer.

Heee hee hee, now you see why my DH is nervous about leaving anything parked too long in one place!
