Begonia hypocotyl?

Bar Harbor, ME

As I prick out my begonia seedlings, I'm noticing that there's quite a bulge in the area that I normally think of as being the hypocotyl. Is this actually the beginning of the formation of a tuber?

I'm dying to know!!!! And I figured that someone on this forum would be just knowledgable enough to tell me.

Thanks,

Karl

Humor me please, while I ask a dumb question: What kind of begonia seeds are you growing? Other than tuberous begonias, which I have never tried to grow from seed, only caudiciform begonias (B. dregei and its varieties) form anything that looks like a tuber. Also, how many true leaves do your seedlings have?

Well, I am growing tuberous begonias. I posted this question so long ago now that my seedlings have become proper bedding plants now and atre ready to be put outside for the summer. The non-stop Mocha series has been very rewarding. Their dark leaves make the plant very handsome.
