Oh very nice! What is the small green lacey plant in the front, middle of the pot.

Could someone please ID the plant just to the left of the Selaginella for me? Its the plant with wide, green, heavily textured leaves with bits of red in the center...I thought I saved the tag, but I can't seem to find it. Thanks a bunch!

Lovely creation! Reminds me of the one I planted three years ago :)

Unfortunately, lost a few of the plants the first winter and this year had to give it a new look. Not nearly as nice as the original but pleased that the Fern (Pteris) at the base is making a comeback, I thought it was dead after last winter!

I love it! I thought about adding something with height to mine. I like the way that looks.

I like it, too. Maybe I'll put some shorter plants around the base of my dracaena so it's not just bare soil.

Great combos! I tend to put flowers in all my containers. I had only one no-flower planting this year. Perhaps I should try a few more of foliage focus ones.

Here's my sad attempt of foliage only.

passiflora...that's a beautiful planter! I don't think you need to add anything.If there's room for some color, just tuck in a litte iresine (chicken gizzards).

joanna: I just love your combos! I know you've got a short growing season in Alberta and probably a lot of the foliage-only plants wouldn't have the time to mature into what they could be! However, you do a great job!. What you consider your sad attempt at foliage looks really good! I grew up in Ontario so it was a true gardening shock for me when I tried to grow the same things I was used to here in Zone 10a! haha. When you've got all your beautiful annuals blooming throughout the summer, I can't keep one alive because of the heat and the entire garden is filled with foliage plants. It's taken me a few years and some $$$ to figure this one out!

Well, actually it looks pretty sad right now. The Dracena has been dropping a lot of its lowers leaves since I brought it inside for the winter several weeks ago :( That's okay, looking at your photos gives me ideas for fillers next year!

Joanna, I love your first creation - beautiful! I had one of those Cordylines for a couple of years and it was getting so big it was a real problem trying to find room for it to overwinter inside. Not a problem this year, it croaked last winter :(

KatG, even though I haven't been posting much on the Container Forum I always love looking at your photos - so much color! I like the looks of the plant on the far right, the variegated one - what is it?

rcn - That's a couple of different varieties of Devils Backbone. Grows like crazy!

That was my "Chocolate" container. Had chocolate salpiglossis, chocolate cosmos, cappuccino rudbecki, yellow babyduck petunias, yellow sanvitilla and a couple copper osteopermum with the cordyline

This is the one I was asking about, the one on the "far" right. Is that Devils Backbone?
