I found this bird in my yard (Cadillac, MI). She was initially bathing in the snow. She didn't fly away when I approached her and thought she was hurt. I caught her to make sure she was okay. I researched books and online and the closest I can come is to a Pine Grosbeak. From what I've read they are uncommon in Michigan. Or at least rarely seen. I'd like more info on her, or give info on her to Researchers for their data, if interested.
Is this a Pine Grosbeak?
Female White-winged Crossbill. Note the crossed tips of the bill. Nice one to get! They tend to be fairly tame (unlikely to have seen people before!) but allowing itself to be picked up does suggest it is probably sick.

I decided she was a white-winged crossbill as I finally saw a male, which was red. I saw several of them for a few days in my yard. The female was even eating from a feeder with a red breasted nuthatch, and a couple Siskins! It was a nice treat to see them! It was one of those winters for the unusual!!!
Nice captures Birdwatcher57!
Before you close this thread, could you post the picture of the male in the Bird Files?
