Gardener105= I just read in the paper that Bend has a thief. A woman has been going into this store for a year and stealing BALSAMIC VINEGAR. S'pose she's drinking it? This is big news. Better than bailouts!

Sounds like some weird form of kleptomania to me. Balsamic vinegar....????

Last year in Seattle we had a strange rash of Japanese maple rustling. I think I read something about Seguro cactus-napping down in Arizona, too.

People are now stealing anything that is sitting out. Pots full of flowers, yard art.

I bought a house a few years ago in summer and moved my beloved 30-year-old jade "tree" into the back yard, in a far corner, during a remodel. I wasn't living on site, so the place was vacant when the workers went home. The jade tree vanished within a couple of weeks and I immediately regretted moving into such a thief-filled neighborhood in Seattle. It took a lot of effort for somebody--probably two people--to find, lift, and lug 50 pounds of dirt, container, and a 4-ft-tall jade plant through a bumpy long side yard to the street in the dead of night.

In December, the general contractor mentioned that his jade plant was blooming and I told him about my stolen tree. He got the funniest look on his face when he realized that his jade was actually mine. He had arrived on site one morning, noticed the plant hidden in the back yard, and concluded that some kids had stolen it from a neighbor's porch, carried it as far as my empty yard, and abandoned it. We had a good laugh about those thieving kids.

Ironically, my recovered jade tree was the identical twin of another that had been stolen a few years earlier from the locked lobby of my condo building. In a city, I think anything that isn't bolted down is considered fair game.

Welcome Weed, That is a amazing story. Glad you got it back. I am so grateful I live where I do. I'm in the woods and kinda remote. Plus 2 dogs that can hear a pin drop, they may be loud but are to gentle.

My little 10# variegated doxi will bark and bark when someone comes. then if they don't pet him, he'll bite 'em on the ankle.

I had a 5-tree bonsai grouping stolen off my patio about 10 years ago when I lived in a townhouse (no fence). It happened right before Mother's Day, and I've always suspected that it became a Mother's Day gift for someone...

Trying to keep up with all these threads takes most of the day. Darn!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I'm with you, Patricia.

Great story, Weed. I think it's nice to hear that there are two people who so appreciated the jade tree and wanted to take care of it. Thank goodness he mentioned it to you, eh?

Hi Mary, doin' OK, how are things with you? I haven't caught up with all the threads yet-not sure I can! I think weed-tree's story is cooler, though.

Thieves are everywhere and will steal just about anything anymore. I'm not surprised that she was stealing Balsamic Vinegar. I hope she was drinking it! LOL! There's some real MORONS in the town now!
susybell, I second Mary's comment. Haven't seen you for a long time. Good to see you again!
