Meet C and Z

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

After working 9 days straight, sometimes 14 hour days, I got a day off. Did the typical things, Laundry, house cleaning, corral cleaning, you know all the stuff you normally do when you are home. Well I was cleaning off the kitchen table and ran across a card.... it was the chicken guy. He had given me his card when I was looking to buy some laying hens so I gave him a call.
Went to his place where he had different breeds, and two pens caught my eye. He let me pick out of the Americauna coop that was almost ready to start laying....

SO I am pleased to introduce Miss Z and Miss C

LOL ZZ she sure is a pretty one. She was so calm and gentle, I picked her. I love the grey/blue of her hind feathers. I do love when Miss Z gets in the light, she sure shines like our arizona sunsets

beautiful ladies miss j!!

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

The guy who sold them to me said they were laying.... Well it has been a week and still no eggs... Ok I am patient, but I really want to chicken fairy to come down and visit them. Also last night when it was dark I walked down to check on them and instead of going in the chicken house, all three of them, C &Z and Roo were perched on a old bucket that I left in the chicken yard... It that strange that they dont use the house? it has laying boxes with hay in them, and a ladder they can climb on... Maybe I should put some ceramic eggs in the lay boxes?

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

MissJestr, they are magnificent! Lucky, lovely ladies. I'd give them time to settle in -- can you close them into the chicken house, get them used to roosting in there?

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Are they used to roosting outside at night? Last year mine would sleep on a pool ladder that was set up inside their pen. I had a heck of time getting them used to sleeping indoors(ended up taking away the ladder for a spell)

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Yes, a disturbance in chicken "environment" can cause a hold-up in the laying. Be patient.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

They were in a pen with about 50+ other hens, part of the pen was inside and part was out. The inside part had laying boxes in there, and I am sure there was not enough room for all to sleep in. They roost on a big planter that is in the chicken yard that was too heavy for me to move so I left it in there.

I am so trying to be patient, I paid 13 bucks a peice for them cause he said they were laying... I wanted to have colored eggs by the time Billy came home... Dang nabbit. I have searched the pen over and over looking for them.

WHOOO HOOOO I got an Egg finally. I forgot to take a picture cause me and Billy were doing the Happy Egg Dance... It is a green one, kind of small, but that dont matter... Its a Egg.. WHOOOO HOOOO

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

FABULOUS! I'm so pleased and excited for you and Billy. Hooray!
