squirrels digging bulbs

is there a way to stop this?
Over the years I have planted a few tulip bulbs & they always get dug up and eaten &/or destroyed by squirrels.

Hi, I have several squirrels in the garden and they love to tease me with my bird feeders. Chipmonds are more of a digging problem for us, however. Tulips, unless they're species tulips. Our summer heat toasted the bulbs after they bloom each spring -- and is likely the culprit that caused our tulips disappearance -- and not because critters digging/eating them off. I've to replant my Tulips every year. Here they're this year. Squirrels and Chipmonds are in the garden, our dogs do keep them chased away during daylight, and cats in the neighborhood that patrol the area at night while all the big dogs stayed indoor help keep 'em squirrels and chimpmonds in check the nature's way.

The only things I have found to keep them out of my flower pots are broken pottery shards and to sprinkle cinnamon powder onto the soil. Laying chicken wire over a bed is another good way if you don't have a vast area to cover.
I have also considered a big BBQ as a solution. lol
Good luck 2 racingboys.

I've a lot of tulips and crocus along my back fence, which is a furry rat run to my neighbors bird feeder. She actually puts peanuts out for the rats, which I always find in my yard. I cover them with coffee grounds, and they haven't been touched.

Hey, that's a great idea. Thanks vadap. I'll try that on the tree rats.
