Is there a list of vendors for us?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I thought maybe I could find a list of vendors for hoyas in these stickys. Can someone who orders tell me where to go for ordering here in the US.

gessiegail, go to the hoya forum homepage and look at the top - there's a blurb that tells you to click for a list of vendors that sell hoyas. Most are in the US.

Hey Gail, I sent you a d-mail because I thought I read somewhere recently that we weren't supposed to post links to vendors on the threads! Duh ... don't know where I got that?!@% I found this link at the top of the hoya forum page: http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/advanced.php?category=107&submit=Go&cat[158]=107

Don't forget to check the Garden Watchdog feedback and leave feedback if you place an order!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks to both of you...........I googled around found some. I need to go to Garden Watchdog as I got about 10 or 12 over the last year from SecretRareGardens or Cowboyflowerman. They have done beautifully.

I will go back and check out the list I missed!!!

Seems like there are a few vendors right on this forum.

As for me, I love Cowboyflowerman. I just wish he would get different hoyas in.

I think I have ordered everything he offers except for maybe the one being offered right now......can't remember.......got to find some new sources. I looked at Rob's Violet Barn and he has some good ones, but knowing Rob, he will send a 2" square with a 2" rooted cutting in it. It would take me years to get a basket going of anything.

Do you order from Carol (who sends good size plants) or Awanda? Mel is a good source but I haven't seen her on the forum since I've been back.

Susan

whatever happened to DMichael who was growing gobs of hoyas?

S

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Isn't Carol in Hawaii and does she send rooted pots? Also..........who is Awanda? Thanks so much!

(Zone 1)

Admin removed dmichael from the site last year.

AlohaHoya/Carol is in Hawaii and I think she has cuttings as well as rooted plants ... best to check her website and e-mail with questions.

Awanda is DG'er AC'sAgapePlants

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Lin......

Seems like I'm doing the scouting for you,gessiegail.:-) Check out Ebay. I think there is a DG member on there now with hoyas.

Susan

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Susan, you are a sweetheart!! Oh......wish I had more money!
Going straight to ebay now.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks for trying. I have all of the ones I saw except for some from Thailand and I can't pay for shipping from Thailand...................

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Oh, I am sure some of those vendors have plants you dont have.... I know that Awanda and Mel have extensive collections... And SRQ Hoyas has more than I do!!!!

That Big Island Grower place needs to get their catalog and order forms going. After all, it is March. :-)

S

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I didn't see any from SRQ. I don't know who Mel is.............The only ones I didn't have came from that place in Thailand.

I just searched for 'hoya plants' and one page appeared..........what am I doing wrong?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Areya's Garden had a lot I don't have. I thought it was from Thailand? Could someone tell me if they are located in the US?

(Zone 1)

Gail, I just did a google search for Areyas Garden and it brought up this e-bay site which says they are in Nonthaburi, Thailand. They do ship to the U.S. - bet it would cost an arm and a leg?!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Lin.
That is what I thought. They were the only ones that had hoyas I don't already have.......because I have ordered everything that cowboyflowerman offers to this point.

(Zone 1)

Gail, you have d-mail.

Pittsburgh, PA

Also, on e-bay, if you click on "buy it now" at the top of the hoya page, it will show all kinds of hoyas that are for sale from various vendors---I think there's well over 100 offered...

Shelley

(Zone 1)

I've never purchased anything on e-bay ... yet! I like that buy it now idea! Going to check it out!

York, PA(Zone 6b)

I've ordered from Areya's and they come all the way from Thailand...the roots are in a gel and do not yet have an opinion about the plants. I can revisit in a few weeks with a thumbs up or down.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

I live about 1 hour from cowboyflowerman. I haven't been there in awhile, but you used to be able to make an appointment to go visit the greenhouses. Man you should see his flowers.

I have ordered from Thailand and didn't find the shipping to outrageous. You just have to make sure that they will provide a phyto certificate. I try to order from ones that will provide it free of charge. Some will charge you $8.00 additional for it.

I am in Texas so visiting in Florida would be a challenge. The lady on ebay has fantastic choices, thanks to a DGer helping me find her. I just posted on Dave's Garden about why people can't self promote good plants in a co-op. Now we get to go bid..........I like to just know how much something is and decide whether to buy it or not............

(Zone 1)

Gail, I just answered your post on the other thread.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I saw it, Lin.........thanks
Bidding is something I don't do with streps either on ebay.........

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

I am on ebay all the time. I just do some google searches to find out what the selling prices are and use that as a guide line. Always read their feedback. I find that ebay can be a good source for plants that are not readily availeable close by. Usually you get a good deal as opposed to internet stores. Just depends on what you are looking for really.

Dee

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

They normally run about 10 or 11 dollars...........I have bought a lot of them on ebay........

Mel is "meltn" on DG.. You should see her gardens and hoyas. Admin shouldn't get mad because I'm the one talking about her not Mel, herself.

I, for one, would rather order from a DG'er because you know everyone has great plants here.

Susan

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Susan. I am bidding on ebay and haven't won anything (LOL). The prices are getting up to 20.00 for a rooted cutting. I hope I lose.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Well....if they are rooted, and growing and an unusual plant, that is NOT that expensive when you think about it. Where else would you get it and be SURE of the label?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am just being a 'ding bat', Carol...........not really complaining...........just having fun today.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I didn't win any hoyas but I think it is a blessing in disguise. One person can't grow everything and gesneriads are my first love. I have at least 25 different hoyas growing and blooming. I should be grateful.

LOL, Gail,

Once I grew a large number of miniature gloxinias from
seed. A florist wanted them and I sold them to him but
I cried about it.

I don't have many gesneriads now. But I have a packet
of Sinningia mini-sins just in case.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Allison, this year I grew 18 kinds of sinningia speciosas from seed and they bloomed............I had more than 2 shelves of them..............I gave them away or threw them in the garbage and then cried. I had to have the growing space. All of the episcias I gave to friends and still shed a tear (LOL) Oh.......forgot I did get to trade episcias with a nursery grower for hanging baskets of hoya (imperialis)

Next order will only be from seed the following sinningias:
Jack Evans purple
Jack Evans red
Peloric purple
Peloric red
They were the prettiest ones...........many of the others were too big (like Charles Lawn, etc)

Gail,

That's a great list.
I love the little tiny, tiny ones.

Just don't have time for them. = (

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I ordered all the little ones from Dave's Violets and then had to get rid of them!!! What it is called when you keep doing the same thing expecting different results? I keep thinking I have more than 7 gro light stands!
