my seeds are just coming up and how far from the grow light should i put them,i seem to think 6" but i'm not sure as it's been a long time since i started brugs from seed. I hope someone can help.
seeds and grow light
It depends on the grow lights and how much heat they produce. The lights should have come with instructions. You don't want to bake the poor little things It's best to follow those instructions because you'll find different height instructions from different sources. For fluorescent lights (One warm, one cool.), Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service says to place the seedlings 3" - 4" under fluorescent lights for 14 - 16 hours a day and University of Missouri Extension says 6" for the same amount of time. If the bulbs are old or have been used before, they will produce less light and you will need to get the seedings closer or expose them to light for a longer period of time. There are so many different types of grow lights that it's almost impossible to give you an exact distance. Do you have a light meter?
You coud try the 6" you mentioned. If the seedlings start to get leggy get the light source closer to the top leaves.
