help with seeds and grow lights
Hi Pat208, it depends on what type of grow lights you are using.
If you are using fluorescent lights, they can be as close as 4 inches.
If incandescent, 6 to 12 inches depending on the wattage.
Metal halide/high pressure sodium- these lamps are very hot and may need 2 or 3 feet of clearance or more with the higher the wattage. Hope this helps...

Hi Dave67 ,i bought 2 new 4' plant grow lights and i have the starts at 5" below them,so far they look good.Thank You for answering.
Good info for me to keep, thanx
Winter time i use lights for seeds but i am with dutch lady put them out side
It was february when i got the seeds, temps outside were low as everyone in Florida knows,it got to 30 at night on a few nights. So thats why i used grow lights inside.
I used regular shop lights they worked good. They were 12 inches from them and kept them on 24-7 they grew great.
Last week I put in a cool bulb and a warm bulb and have really noticed a difference.
And I have to grow precious seeds inside, between the birds, squirrels, and my chickens they wouldn't stand a chance.
