My daffodill blooms are pouting this year...totally reflexed and facing the ground, not facing upwards. They did not do this last year (second year in the ground), but it was quite a bit warmer last spring--could that be why? Anyone experiencing this besides me? No snow, and they are under a large tree, so protected from pounding rains. Temps in the 20's quite a bit the last few weeks after a one week warm spell (during which they were not open yet). Wondering....
Blooms are looking at the ground...why?
Daffodils usually have a 'nodding' habit like this is common. In extreme temp. (cold) some time they droop and the heavy bloom will seem to weight itself down to the ground, but then they will swing back into action and appear erect once the weather warm up. Sometimes, mine don't get back up on their own. I just simply cut them and make a good bouquet of cut flower for indoor enjoyment. These are the miniature daffs. :-)
That's exactly what they look like, so the cold must be the reason. I'm going out in a pouring rain soon to cut them and save them from the ice/snow tonight. Did you get any snow? Thanks!
Wow! Look at that....SNOW in ALABAMA! We haven't gotten any yet, but its coming tonight I hear. Have to wait and see. All the kids are excited, hoping to miss school....
So I heard the storm is heading out your way. Take care, have fun and keep warm.
