This is all still new to me; however, I'm thinking today would be a good day to plant some peas.Today is Tuesday February 24th and I'm in the Central time zone. Thanks for your input.
Is planting peas today the best time?
Tomorrow or the next day (Wed. or Thu.) is the best time in a while for planting above-ground crops, also for transplanting. I don't think today would be all that bad, but the calendar says the 25th and 26th. (I'm chomping at the bit myself; I've wanted to get these squash in the ground for a week!)
Tomorrow it is!
Thanks,
Deborah
Keep notes! We're trying to figure out how much influence the moon really does have.
my calendar says to prune water compost and fertilize this week
I'll have to try planting some at different times and see what happens.
Thanks all,
Deborah
i'll be experimenting too
I really want to know if this is worth the extra anxiety!
only way to know is to just try it =)
i'm doing an experiment of sowing more seeds this w/e compared to also sowing next w/e.
the moon is waxing right now, which is good time to sow seeds cause water absorption is highest during waxing phase and even more so closest to the full moon, which is next w/e.
the moon is in aries and taurus this w/e which is not considered a good sign for sowing seeds.
next w/e the moon will be very close to full and also in cancer, which is considered the most fruitful sign.
so, we'll see if there is a difference in seeds sown this w/e compared to next w/e
Please post results!
All from the same batch of peas? No great changes in temps, rain, etc?
Yupe, all peas from the same packets. Pretty much the same area and soil in raised beds.
I might plant a few more tomorrow and that would give me a three week spread.
Here is a photo of my lettuce today. I'm thinking I will plant some more lettuce seeds tomorrow in hanging baskets. My friends seem to like to get baskets of lettuce. I've seen them used as fund raisers at spring garden marts.
Cool idea...
ok...i have some results...on 2/28, when the moon was in aries (a dry and barren sign) i put a squash seed and black eyed susan seed in separate self watering containers i made out of soda bottles. i kept them outside in the sun, it's been nice and warm here. these seeds did not germinate until this week on 3/10, so it took 10 days to germ.
now, i did the same thing on 3/6, when the moon was waxing and was also in cancer (the most fruitful sign). the seeds germinated sometime between 3/10 and 3/11...so, only about 4 days to germ.
the moon was waxing in aries and cancer but was closer to full when it was in cancer, so i'm sure that contributed as well.
there was definitely a difference in germ. time
i will post pics soon....
Wow. THAT is what I call a result!
Good tracking!
i was really surprised by it
It will soon be warm enough to plant peas here... I'll be watching the signs! I need to get another trellis built for peas. I'm rapidly outgrowing my small veggie area...
i'm going to start my beans, peas and squash on april 2nd, that's the next time the moon is close to full and also in cancer. then either april 29-30, i'll start okra.
i plan to set tomato and peppers in permanent spots the w/e of april 10.
