Hello; This is probably a dumb question, but are the veggie seeds at Homedepot & Wally world & others the same you would order or buy in garden centers?? I am talking about the name Brands, such as Burpees. Are they top of the line seeds,or seconds?? TIA for any answers G/G
Box store seed ?
Same seeds, but very small quantity in those packs. All seed has to be germinate tested every year, (at least here in MN), so that should not be a problem.

In the case of Burpee, The store packs usually have more than ordering from Burpee at much less cost. Ordering from Burpee is exorbitant. The other brand carried by many of them is Ferry Morse. In that case you get basicly the same packet. In either case, the downside is that they may not have the cultivars you want. Sometimes they have cheap seeds rack ( American Seed, Greene Seed) etc, which are very inexpensive. These don't have many seeds in the packet, but if you need just a few seeds of an open pollinated cultivar, they work fine. No germination problems. One thing about the big box stores, what has not sold in three or four months is packed up and moved out.
Greetings --
I posted recently on another forum that several years ago I had zero germination from a packet of Burpee seeds (annual Geranium) bought from a big box store. Given that I had started them at the same time as several other varieties of Geraniums and the rest germinated, I was pretty certain that the problem was the seeds.
I called Burpee and they said they backed their seeds sold by authorized dealers and they sent me a replacement pack -- different variety, though.
I hope this helps!

I've had good luck with wally world seeds, from burpee and they sell another brand also. I don't usuallybuy my veggie seeds there only because I need larger amounts.
Thank you all for the replies.. I am just starting ,,again,, & will try some from wallys & should have some coming from this sites=Seeds for newbies thing.. G/G
I've never had a problem with seeds germinating from the big box stores.
