Road back to AV's straight through Noidville

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Hey everyone,

I used to hang around here a few years ago. The great folks on this board got me going with so many plants! I'm sorry to say that, because of some health problems, I lost them. I have three named plants left because they were in terrariums. Kinda embarrassing since I was the recipient of so much generosity here on DG.

That being said, I went to my local Lowe's store today really hankering for a violet and found all these poor noids on the discount rack. Seemed like a divine message to me! I bought six plants for the whopping total of $15. I've got them trimmed up and in quarantine and feel good about being back in the AV life.

I've been lurking for a week or so since I rejoined DG and glad to see some familiar names. I look forward to meeting everyone else.

Hi there, I'm newer here so I wasn't here when you were around, but still--glad you came back to the forum, and especially glad you came back to the AV hobby :-)

I've been here a little less than a year and have learned so much!

Thank you all for your kind welcome. My three named plants that I still have are Cambridge Missy, Persian Prince (all I really have left is one leaf down but she has babies!) and Optimara Apache Girl.

Then the new noids and some other house plants. I'm trying to move slowly so I don't bite off more than I can chew, if you know what I mean...

Glad to be here,
J.

Good to see you again, Planti. Many of the Optimara plants we call noids are named varieties but we just don't know what it is as they don't mark them anymore.

Thank you, GoldLeaf! And Phoebe, that noid is gorgeous! My rescue plants had their blooms all dried up and icky so I'll be happy when they are blooming again. I had to laugh because I wanted AV's for the flowers and then I come home and snip them all off! LOL! But the poor things needed a good trim and a bit of a rest...

Okay, I know I'm being lazy because the information is here somewhere...but I thought I would ask...How long do you all quarantine? I've got them all together in a sweater box that is sealed. Which probably isn't the most effective but better than what I used to do which is nothing. :)

ABOUT NOIDs: I bought one at a grocery store a couple of years ago that was half dead. It now is the first to bloom in the spring. I named it 'van Gogh" because it had an Optimara tag. BUT with my compulsive orderly nature it drives me nuts to wonder if that's the right name.........................................................................................................[sigh]

Jacki,
What a beautiful plant... I am the opposite of you.. My plants always have dirt on them from when I miss part of the pot watering and it drips on the other plants... I lost allot of my names on my plants from when I was dunking them for bugs...LOLOL Does not bother me I just love seeing the blooms.
Hugs,

My Lowe's noids came from Barnaby Lake greenhouses in BC, Canada. I tried their website but it's either very new or very broken. Anyone ever heard of them?

welcome. I'm another newbie. I lurk and read more than I post, but I'm here a lot. Sorry you had health problems, its easy to take our health for granted until something happens to it. Glad your feeling better and ready to grow again. Plants only reason to have a name is so you don't duplicate what you have and so you can trade..oh and when you post a pretty picture, everyone can know what to look for if they want one! tish

Thanks, tish! :)

Welcome back, Planti. I've been a DG member a long time. I started in Houseplants, and then the cactus and sucs. forums. I then graduated to Plumeria, onto Orchids, then to Hoya and now I've become addicted to gessies. Most of the time now, I'm here on the AV forum. Everyone is very friendly and helpful here. Enjoy!!

LOL,Imadigger,
Your addictions may require an intensive treatment course. ^_^. I,too, love all plants, but I would need a new house (or maybe two) to handle all of those different plants.Living in Florida or someplace warmer might help.(maybe)

Our friend Cedarnest (Nancy) lived in your zone in Nebraska and she had the prettiest avs and streps ever.

Oh Gail,
There have been many wonderful growers here, including Kent Stork and back in the old days Enghardt's.My house is small, but I wouldn't mind throwing out the furniture if I need too...LOL.Don't know how much DH would like that, but I guess I could convince him it's therapy for his nutty wife.^_^.
