Greenhouse roof

Lubbock, TX

Sandy's greenhouse made me wonder. If you could build any type of greenhouse what type of roof would it have? Arched, flat or hoop.

I am leaning towards arched. Because my shelves are 6' tall.

It depends on what kind of green house. Remember that the arch one has a lot of space where all the heat will rise to. With the Flat you still need to slop it so the rain runs off but you do not have any unsalable space to heat. . If you are building with pvc pipe you can make it any height you want. I wish that I had added a foot to my epi house. It is roughly 8 feet tall now.

The one I have currently is sloped/flat. I think if I put up another one ( hopefully) that I would like an arched roof. I can't seem to wrap my mind around a hoop house for some reason.

For some reason the hoop style doesn't seem to work in West Texas. There is only one place here that uses them. The rest are arched. I'm thinking about finding an old car port and use its frame. I saw the plans somewhere on the web.

They have a slight arched roof and are plenty long and wide enough for my needs. I need room for crutches (me) and a wheel chair (mother). She could use one side for her hoya collection and the other for my epis and cacti.

I thought about using one of those car port and I remember that one of my greenhouse website has the frame, that you can build onto. I think the price was good, I will go look for the site and get back to you.

Here it is hope it helps. I thought about using this but it would not fit the area that I have.

Thanks Sandy!

The good part with this one is you can add two or more together. International has the metal fittings.
