I got three different colours of shock wave petunia seeds. Anyhow I guess I wasn't paying attention when I planted the pink ones and I ended up covering them with soil grrrr.....I tried to fish them out after I realized what I had done. Anyhow I got so frustrated I just left them as is.....I know they are suppose to remain on the soil and just be pushed in......however do you think there is any chance my pink petunia's will germinate even if under the soil? Sometimes I could just slap myself upside the head.
Eeeks made a mistake - can you help?
Well, I guess they were sorta covered to begin with since they were pelleted. They will probably take longer but if you don't see anything emerging within a week, mix the soil up a bit again. It will be really hard to see the seed if the clay has come off the seed. You could try a magnifying glass

Ha! I am not that dedicated to use a magnifying glass....I guess I will just wait it out and see what happens. At least I learned a lesson in the process - PAY ATTENTION!! LOL
Well it looks like they have all germinated...meaning I see something really really small happening but something is happening...except for the pink seeds which I accidentally covered. So far looks like I will be having purple and ivory coloured petunia's yay!!! Now to just keep them living and well till spring!
Don't give up o the pink ones. They may pop up.
I have NEVER grown wave petunias!!! But I have some seed this year. Dumb question: Just throw the seeds on top of the dirt and wait??? Do you cover it so moisture says in??? Sorry to ask dumb questions but am anxious to grow my own. I guess you transplant them once they get a certain size??
Thanks for your help.
Glenda
Glenda,
Press the seed into the soil, but don't cover the seed. It is coated with clay (pelleted) and the moisture will turn the pellet color very quickly. Put a dome on until you see them germinate. Once the have formed leaves you could start added a very diluted amount of fish fertilizer once a week. Also, run a fan after you take the dome off. Petunias are susceptible to damping off so water the 1st couple of weeks of sowing with damp-off or strong chamomile tea.
Thanks so much. I will give it a go!!!
Does chamomile tea help prevent damping off?
Anne
yes it does
That's fascinating - I didn't know that. I think I'll make a pot. Some for me and some for my seedlings. I sure hope the missing petunia shows up for you!
Joanne
I'm sure I have used red rose tea too, to water my seedlings and I have never had any trouble.
I think it's the tannin in the tea which prevents the damping off.
Ann
no tannin in camomile as it is an herb
Such a lovely garden Joanna....beautiful.
3A come on you gotta be kidding..........that was last summers super fine grow. My ground is just now seeing the light of day with eight inches of frost thinking about warming up. LOL
Yes the picture was from last August. Nothing growing here yet...except for a few daffildols that popped up along the South side of the house
Only thing growing in my area yet are the silk and synthetics folks forgot to pull last fall.
Seed Savers want those poppy seeds. Save 'em. LOL
