In the Februaury 2009 issue of the Agricultural Research Magazine published by the USDA they have an article titled: A Consistent Approach to Evaluate GE Crops.
A group of 20 scientist has been charged with developing CONSISTENT methods for evaluation to determine what if any harm these crops have on 'lady beetles, butterflies or spiders". Only one of the scientist was identified as a USDA employee. It makes me wonder who the others work for.
To this point, such research has been conducted mostly by Monsanto and others with a conflict of interest by whatever means they have chosen. The stated goal is to set standards in the hope of global adoption. Real and consistent evaluation is what's needed but this just sounds like some more business as usual.
